Im a big LOTR fan as well, and I dont think it will suck. Though it is made by EA, they put together some of the better designers and developers for this.

Yeah, EA has put a lof of time and effort into this, and after we saw all the pics and vids i'm sure it's not going to suck. It's going to be creative and new, and make a new breakthrough in RTS.
I hope my PC won't blow from details tough:)

hehe.. thats funny because thats what everyone was asking about Generals before it came out: "how the network code is more robust then RA2:YURI is!?" And look how that turned out: the SAGE engine is totally dependant on everyone's system to be high-end while online BUT play it over LAN and it doesn't matter. WTF?!? Games like WC3: Frozen Throne and even AoM: TITans don't have this dependance.
In other words, expect the same shiet from EA.. EA screwed both RA2:YURI and Generals+Zero Hour so its likely they'll f**k the community again just to ride the LotR hype machine. Hell.. look at WC3: Frozen Throne! A new v1.16 Patch came out and they're even still supporting the 6 year old (yep, 6!!) Starcraft! Sheshhhhhh! EA are a bunch of righteous co*ks regarding end-support. Expect the same with LotR!

I don't really give a shit about EA's marketing philosphy. Technically generals was fantastic if your system could handle it (net code aside) and with that same quality but in the LotR universe, with the LotR story, it should be great.
I had some good multiplayer games on generals, so i'm expecting the same from this.

If you watch all the 'inside the battle' videos it looks as if the developers are really comitted to making an excellent game. I mean, just the fact they take the time to make these video's shows they believe the community is important.

Never even thought of that. Another reason why it's more than likely going to be a success.

Looks very good indeed, but still no mach for rome total war in terms of gameplay as far as I can judge from demo and from the screens given of BFME. Visually, it might surpass RTW because its effects and all, but RTW is going to have the more freedom, the larger battles, more complexity etc etc.

I don't like the unit scale in this game. The graphics are awesome but the unit scale ruins it for me. I mean look at the screens where the White City is visible. In the movie - It was really BIG... And in the game?... It looks like crap my dog could run over. The walls aren't high at all. They look as if goblins and other shites could just jump over them. Crappy. I always hated "Units as big as buildings" thing in RTS' games.

Yup, it does destroy the feeling somehow. RTW is going to be better there...And if you check those pics, you'll notice that its not really that much units on a screen.

rome does it better with units scale. And dont tell me that BFME looks better. Those battles rome shows there are at least as good looking.
And for people complaining that the demo doesn't look as good and wont be able to run those battles... Developer says that the demo code hasn't been optimized in performance things and that not all graphical effects have been implented there.
we'll know for sure in about 20 days!

But battle for middle earth has lots of different units which look completely different and act completely differently.
In Rome total war it's just guys on foot, guys on horses and guys on elephants.
Then there are only two variations for each, either with melee weapons or arrows. Sure some might have +2 to attack damage, or some might have extra speed and all that crap but they are essentially the same and provide the same functions.
Sure, thats realistic, but it's boring. In BFME there is such a variety of units, all so unique and they can interact with the invironment. Unlike Rome:TW's static environments.
The thing is, I think BFME has the one essential factor, it's fun. It's fun to watch a troll smack troops through the air, it's fun to watch the balrog crush someone into cinders and it's fun to watch theoden be picked up by a flying ring wraith and be dropped on his troops. Noting in Rome:TW can compare.
Although I think both will be good games.

I agree on the last the thing you said.
But its nevertheless impressive to see an army 0f 20000 men attacking a huge city and the unit-building scale to be perfectyl realistic as well. I dont care having clones as long as it allows that huge crowds.
time will tell in the end anyway...

i dont particuarly care about home many units you can control, starcraft was limited and worked very well. its all about controll and its useless having 50,000 units if you cant controll them easily. rtw works well though and its a big improvement on most games. I would like a demo of bfme though. both look nice too
