I've been having a great time farming Stones in 2-1, those weird miners seem to carry a lot of them - especially the ones with napsacks. I still almost feel sorry for butchering them because they seem so.... pathetic and harmless.... heh.

What are you using the stones for? (what stones do the drop)?

Im trying to get the colorless demon's soul to upgrade the shield, but there are only 10 of them in the entire game.

They drop all the primary forging stones, mostly shards and chunks but also gotten a couple of pure sometimes* Basically CLEAR, DRAGON, HARD, SHARP and even SPIDER too.

*At least I thought it was the Miners that dropped the pure, though checking the Wikidot article says otherwise. Hmm. Not sure where I got them from then.

I see. Didnt really check what was needed for upgrades. All of the upper level stuff needs some unique items for upgrade (like colorless demon's soul for big shields and some weapons).

Phew. Finally got that bitch maneater. That was "one" tough mofo. Good shield is an absolute must if you are melee. Dodging just got me off the cliff (seems to be my natural enemy in that game). Also got the dragon bone smasher, heavy and slow as hell with high str requirements, but does awesome damage. But to upgrade needs those damn colorless souls.

Is there any, quick, way to raise a world to PWWT? I want to shift World1 to pure white, gain access to the Executioner, free her.. then drop it back to PBWT and then kill her Black Phantom in order to get the Guillotine Axe.

-edit-

FML.

I was clicking through my item menu, eating the Hero souls, and I accidentally clicked on the Lead Demon's Soul (Phalanx) Crying or Very sad I guess it wasn't a TOTAL loss, not like eating Iron Demon's Soul (Warding!) as Lead Demon's Soul only allows you to construct the Scraping Spear.. It could have been much, much worse. Shame I don't get the Scraping Spear, but it's ok since the thing can't be upgraded (is weak as shit; 100dmg? Pffft) and is really only of use in PVP due to the durability damage.

The only way I know, is to kill a boss demon in that level (killing boss in say 1-3, affects the tendency in the whole 1-x world). That gives you +1 towards white. Not sure what is your tendency now, so you might have to kill several bosses. Not sure about those black phantoms in 1-4.

To go to PBWT is easier. Just use the Stone of Ephemeral Eyes to resurrect yourself, and then go die in that world. Keep doing that until you are pure black.

Yeah, getting PBWT is easy... it's the PWWT that's going to be fun. I don't know the exact number I'm on now, except that it's higher than neutral but not quite "glowing white" yet. I've already killed Phalanx, Tower Knight and Red Dragon, so that only leaves Blue Dragon, Penetrator and False King left. Oh and Old King Doran, eventually. Will that be enough? Neutral

Pretty sure you can check in one of the menus when you click start (dont remember the name, probably something like world tendency). Glowing white is as white as it gets.

Try to do the penetrator and see if that does it for you. He is not that challenging as a melee. If not then on to blue dragon.
Here is the full list of what you can do to become white from DS wiki:

* Kill a Demon (boss) in a particular World (+1)
* Kill the Red Dragon (+1) in 1-2
* Kill the Blue Dragon (+1) in 1-4
* Kill the Black Phantom Form of one of the 5 special named NPCs (+3)
o Defeat Black Phantom Executioner Miralda (+3) in 1-1
o Defeat Black Phantom Scirvir, the Wanderer (+3) in 2-2
o Defeat Black Phantom Lord Rydell (+3) in 3-1
o Defeat Black Phantom Satsuki (+3) in 4-1
o Defeat Black Phantom Selen Vinland (+3) in 5-2
* Defeat a Primeval Demon (+3) (once per world per game)
* Defeat Black Phantom NPC (see above) and 1 Primeval Demon without returning to Nexus. (+6) (once per game)
* Defeat Black Phantom NPC (see above) and Primeval Demon without returning to Nexus, and then defeat 1 Boss. (+7) (once per game)
* Kill an invading Black Phantom

How do you make the NPCs go into their black phantom form? Just kill them?

Oh, guess its bosses for you.

But I just had so much fun with old monk. And by fun I mean I owned him in less than a minute. The dragon bone crasher sword knocked him off his feet every time I connected, and he didnt really try to dodge it or use magic. So all I did is kept knocking him and down and he died.

These bosses placements make no sense. The progression should be you fight the most difficult bosses last in every world, not the other way around. Maneater should have been the boss of that level. He killed me countless times and was really pissing me off.

Soooo.... Second Chance or Large Sword of Searching?

-edit-

I beat Flamelurker on my first try!!! That fucker was TOUGH and it was a long fight I would never have won without Soul Arrow or Ring of Great Strength. Those, and 15 "Fresh Spice" saved my ass. I had TWO HP left .. no healing grass.. and enough MP left to case one more spell before I would have to try and eat some spice. Without the RoGS I wouldn't have been able to dodge and roll as much as I needed to. Constantly dodging and blasting off Soul Arrow shots at him.

That was awesome and yeah; definitely got my blood pumping Very Happy

-edit 2-

So now I have PWWT on the Stonefang Mine. Awesome. Time to get my Dragon Bone Smasher and go see Scirvir. Once I've done that, I'll Ephemereal Eyes>Suicide 7 times, drop to PBWT and kill his BP and also the Primeval Demon in order to progress through World 1.

Do you know what version our game is? I got the SEGATASANSHIRO release. Because if its not 1.04 then you can suicide in the soul form to lower your tendency so no need for the eyes. If you are still in your PWWT, then try it.
But I think there is a way to delete the patch off the game if our game is patched.

I dont think I am going to hunt for those demons. I got 5 colorless souls, and I am still deciding what i am going to spend it on.

Anyways I have completed all the other realms and only 1-4 is left. Right from the bat its tough as fuck. There are three BP with one of them wielding that awesome shield that blocks everything.

The bone crasher sword was an invaluable tool for me. It made most of the boss fights easy. Will probably spend my colorless souls to upgrade it for the +80 damage.

Edit: Btw, just a caution, dont do what I did. Wasted more eyes than needed by resurrecting myself to suicide again and the tendency didnt change. You have to quit to nexus first for the tendency to change. So I wasted like 3 eyes by not realizing I need to quit to nexus first.

I'm not sure what version mine is, but I know suiciding as a soul definitely DOESN'T lower my WT.

Yeah IMO Flamelurker and False King were the most fun of the boss fights. I must have died 15 times in a row on false king. Yeah I suck at long boss fights.

I enjoyed that fight IMMENSELY! Real sense of adrenaline, the constant to-and-fro, hitting him, moving, dodging his attacks... it was invigorating! Very Happy Beating him, with only 2HP left, no healing grass, not enough "time" to eat a spice to regain MP, and with enough MP for one more shot of Soul Arrow...? That was one of the absolute best moments in the entire game so far, and I've been playing for over 20hrs.

You fought the maneater yet? He was my hardest boss. Combination of power and treacherous environment was a result of many deaths for me.

Edit: Woohoo, beat the game after 25 hours of gameplay. Awesome game, and one of the most challenging games I have ever beat. The combat is the best Ive seen in an RPG. Every weapon, shield, swing, attack, and dodge feel just right, and have a believable feedback. Proud to say beat King Allant in one on one duel without any glitches or use of magic. Of course asswipe killed me several times, and his soul sucker power is bs.
Started the new game right away, and even though my bone crasher still kills low level mobs in one hit, they do a lot more damage and take away more stamina after each hit. And stamina management is the key with this sword.

One thing about Demon Souls is that you'll find every other games you play "easy as hell" once you're finished with it.

I know it did to me almost to the point that i now start every game i play on HARD

In my experience so far, after over 20hrs of play and I'm currently at SL55, is that the regular enemies are infinitely more difficult than any of the bosses I've fought so far.

Phalanx? LOLWUT.
Tower Knight? Laughable.
Red Dragon? Ho~hum.
Penetrator? Pfft, try harder.
Armour Spider? Boring.
Flamelurker? Piece of piss.
Dragon God? Umm, aren't you supposed to be a god?
Fool's Idol? Die bitch.

Yet going up against a DP, or a Red-Eyed Knight, or even a named DP? Fuck me, that shit isn't "challenging" it's just bullshit. One hit instakills, impossible to block any attacks without suffering 100% stamina loss, and not to mention all the named enemies attack faster than a fucking rattlesnake. No, the bosses are laughable in this game --- the standard enemies are the ones that make this game so tough.

That is how I felt (except a few bosses, like maneater and king allant). I died countless times in 1-4 where there this phantom with a shield that blocks everything, and my heavy ass barely escaped his spear. It felt like a mini boss fight every time I saw the red eyed knight. It was probably their intent, to make those bosses look cool and intimidating but being less of a threat.

Phew, I made through 1-1 on ng+ without dying and still have my 150k souls. Will try to make Northern Regalia now, since I am bored of my effective but unmanageable bone crasher.

Maneater was so infuriating, even in online coop with a buddy these two were a son of a bitch. That whole level is so intense, one false step and you fall down.

I tried taking on Scirvir as a DP and he just fucking annihilates me each and every time. I don't know what all the guides are yabbering about when they say he has "limited MP" - because I dodged his Fireball and Fire Spray dozens of times and he never ran out of MP. One hit from the Fireball is an instakill and trying to close in for melee was an exercise in uselessness as one hit is, again, an instakill. What the hell kind of SL must you be to take on these named DPs? What kind of ludicrously impossible weapons must you need to damage them?

Soul Ray does all of 20 dmg... woooo.
My Dragonsword +5 does practically nothing, nor does my Quality Winged Spear +4..
Quality Compound Bow +5? Barely scratches him...

True. You have to fight him at the end of the bridge, on that round platform, a bit easier there. Mostly run there in circles until you catch him off guard, hit, continue running Smile

What do you mean maneuverability? You mean when you try to shield bash or something? I used that shield from when I could meet the reqs up till the end.. that one you get with the painting on it is pretty badass too.

It's considerably heavier than my other shields so in order to move quicker, including dodging, I have to wear Ring of Great Strength else it ends up with more than 50% equip weight.
