For me, I am playing the game all over again. Granted I only played 25 hours of it before. So starting over wasn't that big of a deal. Haven't done any of the DLC either. So, this will last a while til Vegas comes out, lol

G4 upped a new video of one of the sidequests, pretty standard stuff and they only show one playthrough of it. Not really that much of a spoiler, except if you really don't want to see any quests from the game.

You get though a really good look briefly of the new locations, look really different from Fallout 3.

Actually strange errors like this are not uncommon in the Gamebryo derivative Oblivion engine.

RPGs and gliches are twin brothers, you won't see one without the other.
The vid looked pretty good to me. Maybe my memory is playing tricks, but the gfx look quite a bit better than Fallout 3. Maybe it's because the greyish bland textures are no longer needed.

It's not like Oblivion / Fallout 3 are the epitome of polished games either.

Remember that it is the console version. It'll look much better on PC.

You'll still level up the same way, but we've balanced a lot of skills, and tried to make them all useful. One skill change some people have noticed is that we've rolled Small Guns and Big Guns into a single "Guns" skill.

Dumbing down as everybody else. Why have two skills when one can do it?, next time it has to be "made more accessible" they're asking themselves; why have skills at all?... Rolling Eyes

That's been known for quite a while now (and Van Buren had the same change). Number of skills remains the same anyway with the addition of Survival.

Plus that isn't really accurate, since not all Big Guns transfered to the Guns category, instead they were split between Guns, Energy and Explosives.

Still pretty damn dumb. Why would me training with an assault rifle make me just as proficient with a minigun?

So by that logic, since assault rifle is of similar size to a plasma rifle, you should be able to use both effectively by raising a single skill. Smug

problem is the minigun is OK and very efficient, but in some situations you just need to have a quick launch weapon for fast ennemies and the minigun is pretty slow to launch.

Well, would certainly make more sense than mixing small and big guns.

If you step back and look at the mechanics of Fallout, you'll find that a lot of it doesn't really make much sense aside from its gameplay applications.

I like the change because splitting off the big guns into various categories will make a skill like Explosives more viable to tag, and it'll make balancing the combat skills easier as well.
Plus, in exchange we get a non-combat skill which is exactly what these "next-gen" versions of Fallout needs, lest it ends up as a pure shooter.

I tend to be very wary of when developers remove skills in sequels (Oblivion for example was incredibly bad in this area) but there are also times when it does make sense.

Bah screw big guns! Small guns are sexiest! In fact instead of mixing them together, they should just get rid of big guns entirely.

*has never created a Fallout character who invested in Big Guns since 1997 base*

I won't say anything definitive about the super sledge, but I doubt the fun will last longer than an hour. Eventually you'll switch to weapons.

I think that was one of the things J.E. Sawyer wanted to change in Van Buren; less enemies that used firearms (since bullets are meant to be scarce and valuable) and more emphasis overall on melee and unarmed. In earlier Fallout games they weren't really a competitive alternative to firearms (not to mention they got pretty damn boring, too) but now with New Vegas it looks like Obsidian is try to remedy this a bit with the unique melee weapon attacks etc.
