I am having real issues with iTunes. it uses QuickTime to playback MP3s and I am getting distortion / crackling every 5 seconds - it's worse on some songs than others. It sounds like bitrate issues or something, but i've tried EVERYTHING (drivers, windows 7 playback settings, rargh rargh rargh). The issue isn't present if I play the music via Windows Media Player.

So, I want a new application to listen / browser my music collection through.

I don't the application to put music onto my iPod, I just want a nice application that will let me:

a) browse music by most recently added
b) list most played / most recently played music
c) allow me to shuffle all my songs, or just by certain artists or albums
d) allow me to easily search by artist, song, album, etc.

IF POSSIBLE:

a) integrate with the iTunes music library, which i will still need to update whenever I get new music (in order to get it onto my iPhone)

Any ideas?

Foobar2000.
There's a ton of plug-ins (components) for it, so you can probably add every function you mentioned if it's not already there.

Will it manage / update my iTunes library should I add new music to it?

I don't use iTunes, but can't you just tell it to update the library whenever you copy music files into a specific folder? I'm guessing you'll put them all into C:\Music anyway.
