To those who finished the game, was the story really that hard to follow? I beat the game, and I found the story to be better than most CODs and pretty easy to follow. It is complete nonsense and American flag waving till no end, but at least those conspiracy theories were entertaining to me. The story was the ONLY reason why I finished the game since i found the SP gameplay boring, and very cookiecutter.

I am asking this because people on consoletrailers complained that the story was confusing, and not really being sure who are you playing as (character hopping).

I thought it was clear as day who you were playing as since it was so in your face with the introductions, plus then you were referred as that person, in addition to your character having a voice.
Problem identified. Cool Face

Nope, story was fairly easy to follow through and I was always aware of who I was controlling in each level.
One thing that I really liked about the campaign on this one is that the famous american patriotic dick waving in a COD game was only at the very last scene in the game.
In MW2 it was sickening. Mad

And besides, only a lol wut would be surprised with the scene after the credits:

Nah, I thought the DX reinstall solved my problems, but it's still stuttering heavily. In the Vietnam mission, it gets unplayable. What a crappy performance. I sure hope the scene groups crack the patches, because as it is, I'll go play something else.

I kind of like the fact that you've got one profile for playing online on dedicated servers - and another one for playing training ground.

Yeah, a day like now I play combat training on my other profile with my friends, because the server browser does not work.

Really? because that is so annoying. You cannot immerse in the game because that shuttering doesn't happen in the real life.

I believe Treyarch delivered a better campaign then IW did last year. On a global scale both are stupid but the story of MW2 was more "Michale Bay". It had constant character skipping and the loading screens were the only time when the story was told, like when you play the attack on the Russian airport, then a loading screen with confusing dialog snippets and then suddenly World War 3 is going on at the US coast. WTF? I understood what was going on but it felt very forced.

This campaign felt much more coherent to me (while still being very derpy in general).

With the new cracked update by Skidrow, framerate is definitely a bit better (especially min framerate) and hitching is reduced. However it still can't compare to the perfect 50+ fps gameplay of MW2, and when the game loads new areas the framerate still takes a dive. However the bink interrogation cutscenes that played before at around 20-35 fps, now are much smoother (40+)

But since Treyarch could deploy the first performance patch that fast, maybe there is hope that there are even more performance fixes coming.

In any case, as I've said before with the original crack the game was far from unplayable for me, so idk how this update affects those that had trouble playing it before..

The stuttering has been slightly reduced but it's still definitely present, especially during the most crowded scenes. Anyway the game is quite playable now (even if it's far from MW2's smoothness).

Such a shame they didn't crack the Combat Training mode.
I've waited for bots in a Cod game for forever.
Seems you have to be online in order for the mode to work in the retail version. I just hate it when they do that.

And the voice belongs to Gary Oldman Wink Great actor btw.

Imho, the story is much better than MW2 which was totally silly. My only gripe is that it's not twice as long and less linear, but that's COD I guess.
It wouldn't surprise me if future COD titles will ditch singleplayer completely.

CoD4 was the game that kinda set the standard, the game that did it first and did it right. Every other CoD was just trying to do more of the same and sometimes went too far (like MW2). So it's hard to compete against it Smile

With that said, I think Black Ops campaign was great. As over the top and unbelievable it was, at least it made sense within the game. And the story was a little more complex than what you would expect from a call of duty game (which is not much, but still). So I'd say it is one of the best of the series for me.
It was also nice to see the new facial expression tech in action.
