CoD4 was the game that kinda set the standard, the game that did it first and did it right. Every other CoD was just trying to do more of the same and sometimes went too far (like MW2). So it's hard to compete against it Smile

With that said, I think Black Ops campaign was great. As over the top and unbelievable it was, at least it made sense within the game. And the story was a little more complex than what you would expect from a call of duty game (which is not much, but still). So I'd say it is one of the best of the series for me.
It was also nice to see the new facial expression tech in action.

I don't know about setting the standard. For me COD1 & 2 set the standard by being really entertaining while staying grounded in history AND having larger and less linear levels than the subsequent COD games.

MW1 was great fun but it was also the beginning of the WAY to short singleplayer campaigns with "Follow the leader"/"Holding the players hand" Constantly.
Maybe it set the standard for good console multiplayer games, but the pc already had many awesome multiplayer experiences.

Let's just say that It was the first really great COD game for consoles.

OVERRULED!!! COD1+2 Wasn't short (at least they didn't feel that way) And they did have something that we will never see again as long as consoles dictates the market...Bigger levels, I remember in COD2, a Normandy level with a battlefield that was both outside and inside and not a lame corridor, hell! there were even room for Tanks.

Having said that, BO's campaign got me hooked despite me bitching now and then over the gameplay that suffers from Consolitis. When I completed the game the first time (On Hardened) I was surprised to see that I only spent 5-6 hours, as it felt like 10 (10 Entertaining hours btw. Smile

You are aware that CoD2, which you praise as a "true PC game" and CoDBO were both developed primary for consoles, right?

Well I was saying that in regards to the recent CoD games. There is quite a bit of difference between CoD1/2 and CoD4. Both in structure of the single player and multiplayer.
MW felt like a game apart - a real next installment, and every next CoD structured their campaigns and multiplayer on what MW introduced. So that is what I meant - a game that set the standard for the current series Smile

COD2 developed primarily for consoles??? What are you smoking???

If you had bothered to read my last couple of posts you would also realize that I have already said that CODBO is "dictated" by consoles. Rolling Eyes

The bigger levels of CoD2 that are not possible in CoDBO because the consoles dictate the level design were very possible in the X360 version of CoD2 Rolling Eyes

Still not the performance you'd expect from a game which looks like that.

Duh, could that be because COD2 featured less detailed textures, lighting, Physics etc. ??? Rolling Eyes

Give it up, COD2 was definitely NOT made primarily for consoles...

It's true, at least partly.

1) It was a 360 launch title, meant to showcase the power of the new MS console.

2)

Quote:
Speaking in an interview with Official PlayStation Magazine, Infinity Ward boss Vince Zampella revealed that the developer has wanted to create a modern combat game - and work on consoles - for years, but Activision's held them back.

"We always wanted to be on consoles and Activision saw us as more of a PC developer," he said.

"With Call of Duty 2, we were dead set against it being World War 2," Zampella told OPM, "but Activision really wanted it, the compromise sort of being that we'd get some dev kits for consoles in exchange for doing a World War 2 game.

3)

Here's an interview, where the interviewer talks about PC cards, and the IW representative says the CoD 2 engine was built for the new consoles: http://www.shacknews.com/featuredarticle.x?id=11

Quote:
Shack: With a new generation of video cards, the trailer definitely showcased some excellent new effects. Can you tell us what are some new technologies you're incorporating?

Zied Rieke: We built our engine for Call of Duty 2, knowing that we were developing for the next generation of console technology.

4) http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/i_CoD2

Quote:
Eurogamer: Obviously it's been exciting to see CoD2 running on 360. It looked pretty awesome, something that can't have been that easy to achieve on brand new tech.

Grant Collier: The 360 - it's like this whole new era of gaming. This probably would have been a PC-only title if Microsoft hadn't come to Activision and asked Infinity Ward to do an exclusive for the 360. That was a real honour - we've had a great relationship with them. They've been able to help us out tremendously. But multiple threading - that has been a really challenging thing. I don't want to blow any smoke your way, but it has been challenging.

5) http://venturebeat.com/2010/03/07/the-making-and-unmaking-of-infinity-ward/

Quote:
Bach’s team asked Activision to make Call of Duty 2 a launch title for the Xbox 360.

Collier told me in an interview a few years ago that he was ecstatic about the request from Microsoft. His team wanted to make leap from PC games to the new consoles. Launching with the Xbox would erase what Infinity Ward felt was the stigma that they were a PC game maker only. Infinity Ward kept its PC version going, but then it hired like crazy and broke off a team to make the console version. They decided the Xbox game would share the same art as the PC version, but the control scheme would be very different. The pressure was on because there were less than two years to go before the console launch.

Thx for the info Smile Since it was released first for Pc I wouldn't call it a game made primarily for console even if the game was supposed to show off the Xbox360's capabilities, and the Pc version also had Dedi servers and was mod friendly.

So, Cod2 (on the Xbox360) seems to be a Pc to console port, or developed by two deifferent teams.
