Yes it looks cheesy,but still could be quite fun.
I do wonder however how big the game is,since the devs said it will come on a boxed set of EIGHT!!!! DL disks(DAMN)...must be a lot of those live action scenes...

Music by RUSH has been dropped because the music company that owns the rights requested a ridiculously high amount of money, while in the past they had fooled the devs that they would be affordable.
They've also managed to shrink the video files with better compression and now the game fits on 2 DVDs.

Well, Phantasmagoria was awesome. Loved the 2nd one too even though it wasnt well received. If this is anything like that I'll surely give it a try at least.
There is an amazing amount of story here. Most FMV titles, or adventure games in general, are only a few hours long. DarkStar is approximately TWENTY – nearly all of which is plot based. As such, you really get a lot of character development and back story, which is impressive considering two of the characters are total amnesiacs. The game does take a big page from The 7th Guest in which you’ll see spectral remnants of the past act out things that happened long ago, but instead of being supernatural, it’s sci-fi in nature. The game is incredibly well written and even though the games relies on a few worn-out clichés to set the stage (amnesia, heel turns, etc), it’s all nicely done and a great deal of fun. Usually I’m not a fan of Sci-Fi, but I was thoroughly impressed by the sheer amount of content here. I should point out at this point that the game takes up 13-14 gigs of space on your hard drive and that’s almost all story and video footage. To say that Darkstar is the biggest and the best FMV adventure game ever in terms of story isn’t a hard case to make. Sure there are some things I didn’t care for or found lackluster (like the ending), but the entire affair is so well done, you’ll find yourself scouring every corner of the ship (and other things…) to get all the story out of the game.

The reviewer notes that the puzzles are somewhat simple, since the game is first and foremost an "interactive movie", but hey if the story is indeed well written, the music is awesome, the length is ~20 hours(!) with lots of good quality FMVs, it sounds like fun to me.

Ahem. Anyway. While I am intrigued I'm fresh out of money but I would actually consider to buy this one just for the sake of a developer trying something... old. I mean new.

I presume you're talking about Gabriel Knight 2? That one, my dear sir, sucked pretty bad (in comparison to the first one).
Wing Commander III/IV were FMV heavy but not what I'd call a FMV game (because let's face it, those were mostly adventure/puzzle kind of games).
I have to cave in a bit regarding the Tex Murphy games. They were ok~ish I guess.
Ok, they were pretty awesome and fun.
And let's be honest, it's way easier to name shitty FMV games than good FMV games.
