IGN gave it 8.5 with presentation getting only a 7 for bad interface and long loading times and an 8 for sound, complaining about the bad soundtrack and weak engine sounds.
Graphics, gameplay and lasting appeal all got a 9.
I also found a german review where it got 8.5 as well, with pros being the huge amount of content and almost photo realistic cars, nearly perfect controls and driving physics, the track generator and 3D mode.
Cons mentioned here are the graphics, specifically weak shadows, tearing, weak weather effects and cars not getting dirty as they race, weak AI, laughable damage system, lots of cars without cockpit view and long load times. They seem overly critical of some things for an 8.5 score.

Im tempted too but with the standard cars - is it really that bad compared to premium ?
like headshot said there is no such thing as a standard and premium version of the game.
there are standard and premium cars in the game, no matter what version you get, and those differ in detail.

Does this game support playing your own music from the PS3 at all?
it's definitely in the feature list, custom soundtrack playing music from the PS3 HDD.

Gran Turismo 5 is a 10/10 simulator wrapped up in a 5/10 game – it’s driving is as exhilarating as anything that’s gone before, and its slavish obsession with the minutiae of many of its cars ensure it's an encyclopaedia of automotive delights. Its brilliance on the track, however is matched by its sloppiness off of it, and there’s a lack of polish that would at one time have seemed sacrilegious to the series. Ultimately its driving wins out to ensure that it’s still a great game, but it leaves that nagging doubt; this could have been a masterpiece were it not for the fact that Polyphony was so absorbed with the detail that it took its eye off the ball.

..thats what I meant , premium cars not a game thx
here's a video showing the difference between standard and premium, shadak.
it's a low quality video but I think it's good enough to see roughly how big the difference is.

I really hoped this would deliver as then I'd have an excuse to buy a PS3 but I am less than impressed. 80% of the cars look 'old' and you can't tune them, no internal view on them either.
No hood view ? DubyaTehFf
Rain is just a cosmetic effect physics aren't changed.
... and most of all the driving physics are not nearly good enough, Forza is tolerable ( for a console game) but this is below par.
Patches for things like that would be nice. I usually drive with either cockpit view or behind the car, but I can see how people are disappointed at the lack of the hood view.
I really just can't see a reason NOT to have it. It's just a weird omission.
At least it has the roof view though. Looks almost like a hood view
Will have to wait and see what kind of patch policy Polyphony Digital will go for here.
Will they fix stuff? Add features? Or do nothing at all?
oh and FroggerFragger, you can tune standard cars, you just can't customize their chassis/rims as far as I know. Maybe that's what you meant but just thought I'd clear that up.

Pretty crappy pics, had no time to take good ones I had to use my flash aswell, even though it's an external, Speedlite one, it's still a flash. No flash used on the projector-screen shot though, so it's pretty blurry and noisy
So, basically it's my Fanatec GT3RS v2, Clubsport pedals, 6+1 H-shifter. Built the rig myself, using only square sheet metal "rods" (I can't for the life of me think of a better name ) and a seat from a R33 Skyline.
Playing my GT5 Collectors Edition on a 80GB PS3, Epson TW1000 projector, Pioneer LX52 reciever, 5.1 soundsystem etc. I guess thats about it, as far as the GT5-setup goes
Watercooled 5950X | AORUS Master X570 | Asus RTX 3090 TUF Gaming OC | 64Gb RAM | 1Tb 970 Evo Plus + 2Tb 660p | etc etc
