WOW does not: like MMORPGs it keeps going and going until your marriage/relationship/bank account/death by starvation comes due. If you want to strip away your social life and lose months or even years off your life play a MMORPG -- the great useless time waster with no value in the end. |

Value? Its entertainment. By that logic we can apply it to any activity that is considered entertainment and who doesn't bring you money. Fuck sake, stupidest thing I have ever read in here.
And suggesting gaming\mmorpg are addictive is so retarded I don't even know where to start. Are you seriously suggesting its on the same level as lets say smoking? Yes people can get an unhealthy relationship to your computer, but it has NOTHING whatsoever to do with the game or computer. Its your personality, getting obsessed with something. Its not like smoking where nicotine makes you want more.

I am 30 years old. I have 2 jobs, which i love, but are both during the night (weekends mainly + some during week). I have a lot of free time during the day. I go out a lot, party hard (alltho mostly after im done working with friends and collegues), im getting laid and am single.
I pay my bills, my rent, my food, my necessities. Who are you to tell me playing WoW is a time waster and i shouldnt play it ?

There is a difference between MMOs and other multiplayer games. Sport games (like Fifa), deathmatch games (like Quake or CoD) and strategy games (like Civ) are divided into matches, which you can play ulimited amount of. MMOs on the other hand, give you an illusion, that you are actually playing through a game, like in single player, just with friends.

I spend most of my time in WoW in Battleground matches, and i don't think the rest of the game gives the illusion of a single player game with friends at all, it's not like anyone is expecting that the next raid or quest will be the end of the game.

Whooaa knew I would provoke reaction but tis cool.. re: MMORPGs and Social Life. All good if you can manage it of course, its your scene. Just be weary like anything it can get out of control. Delegate and compromise on your time between it and life. Hell, I mod a lot in a certain PC game so its an addiction towards developing stuff which I never really play -- my reward is seeing other enjoy it for me -- thats become my deal.

Ever since random cross-realm instances went ingame, WoW couldn't be even considered a grindfest anymore, unless you care about words like "gearscore" and "archievments". You can just play 30 minutes a day, get some gear and log off. Not like you have to raid hardcore to get anywhere now, you can get decent stuff just by doing random heroics and spending the currency you get from those runs on stuff.
