My question is what is the best way to hack it? I would like some kind of softmod with loading games from HDD. I could find some info but there is too much on the internet if you are not in the wii scene.

Read the tutorials properly, and make sure he has a nand backup before you do anthing.
As to mod chips someone else will have to advise you on that.
Oh and you may come across a lot of problems to do with the IOS's, this link explains what each one does. Essential reading if you want to load games via a USB HD.

thanks for those links. Never really got around to finding info regarding softmodding my wii. worked like a charm.

Does the softmod work on all Nintendo Wii revisions? I haven't been following the Wii's release history to be honest with you. I am asking because the Xbox 360 has gone through so many revisions that some of them are more difficult to flash than others because of the different optical drives they have.
