any news on the promised patch? Sad

Yup.

Major patch coming this week hopefully Smile

Code:
AI

    * Worker AI improvements.
    * Update to tactical AI pillaging code. Additionally, always check to make sure it’s not trying to pillage in an enemy dominance zone.
    * AI victory emphasis improvements (more efficient end-game when focusing on Science and Diplo victories).
    * AI should colonize other continents regularly.
    * AI will emphasize production of an Ocean going explorer unit when the time comes.
    * Adjust Napoleon to make him more likely to go for culture.
    * More aggressive second wave expansion (mostly off shore) after initial empire building and consolidation has occurred.
    * Optimization when finding routes (pathfinder improvement).
    * Multiple tweaks and bug fixes.
    * AI will now build ranged and mobile units more in line with the flavor settings.
    * Multiple defensive AI tweaks.
    * Never use ranged units to provide flanking bonuses. (Added 11/18)
    * Improve AI use of protected bombard attacks (melee in front, ranged in the rear). (Added 11/18)
    * Worker priority adjustments (prioritize pillaged tiles, etc.). (Added 11/18)
    * Further pathfinder optimization. (Added 11/18)

GAMEPLAY

    * Cities heal more quickly.
    * Only allow one upgrade per unit from a goody hut.
    * Science building track adjustments (cost, specialist slots, GP Points, etc). (Added 11/18)
    * Amount of damage caused during naval combat increased. (Added 11/18)
    * Melee horse units combat value lowered, and now receive a penalty when attacking cities. (Added 11/18)
    * Lowered bonuses received from Maritime city-states. (Added 11/18)
    * Removed maintenance from defensive buildings. (Added 11/18)
    * Multiple unit upgrade track adjustments. Most (but not all) units now have a full upgrade path from start to finish. (Added 11/18)
    * Open terrain penalty lowered. (Added 11/18)
    * Policies must be selected the turn they are earned. (Added 11/18)
    * Promotions must be selected the turn they are earned. If it’s as a result of combat, then the beginning of the next turn. (Added 11/18)

UI

    * Tweaked the single-player score list to hide the civs of unmet ai players.
    * Added game option to disable automated workers from removing features. (Added 11/18)

DIPLO

    * AI's attitude towards you is now visible in the diplo screen and diplo drop-down.
    * Added info tooltip for an AI leader's mood. Lists things that are making an AI player happy/upset.
    * New diplo system: Declaration of Friendship (public declaration with diplomatic repercussions).
    * New diplo system: Denounce (public declaration with diplomatic repercussions).
    * New custom leader responses (Serious Expansion Warning, Aggressive Military, Luxury Exchange, Borders Exchange, Gift Request).

MODDING

    * Parent category counts now include counts of child categories.
    * Selecting/deselecting a category now automatically selects/deselects it's children and its parent.
    * Tweaked category name truncation to better fit names.
    * Hide categories w/ no children and a count of 0.
    * Added support for fallback languages (if mod is not translated, fall-back to English so text keys are not showing).

MISC

    * Fixed save format which causes saves to increase the memory footprint of the game drastically when loading frequently over the course of the game.

Nice indeed, rock on! Smile

I tried to upload them but nothing was downloaded so it seems to just work as a unlock via your Steam profile, nothing I can do but a Steam emulator and running the game from that way with DLC authorization or what it's called might function.

Won't it just work as the way the previous DLCs worked? Just copy and replace?

I bet that sometime soon, they'll float around. Those russians can do wonders when they want. And we do have a non scene crack for the latest patch, as well as the Mongol DLC...So no biggie.

Thing is: 8 pounds for a map pack or 12 pounds if you buy the maps separately, it seems excessive. 2k vastly failed on 3 IP's this year, gathering a rather negative feedback. Bioshock 2, Mafia 2 and Civ5 attracted a lot of heat for being dumbed down versions of the previous successes. They were trying to milk those IP's to death and that came to bite them.

i refuse to buy anything from them :X wtf with launching an unfinished game to the market, let it so (no patchwork around) and plus wanting to earn more $$$ by releasing maps that should have come with the game???

fuck this company!!

they managed to transform the greatest game pc franchise of all times into utter crap: one of the failures of the decade.

unplayable this game so far...

Depends for who.
I still enjoy it from time to time.

And who really cares for DLC maps, when there is modding community around with free content.

I just hope they don't sell well, so they move their money making priorities on something else (like content worth buying).

I think it depends who you are asking. A long time hardcore fan or a casual player. For me is one of the GOTY of this year.

I fail to see how this is GOTY :/ And I would really like it to be tho.

This game can be as good as CIV 4 in time, but as is - no way. Ive stopped playing untill next patch - but ya you can play the game, after first patch ive had no crashes in 15 games or so.

This. That said I can enjoy the game somewhat the first 200-300 turns on marathon speed, then it bogs down and get so slow beyond enjoyment, + loading the game crashes the game. A well known bug too. Its so insulting releasing map packs this expensive(at all for that matter) when the game is in such a poor state. I hope they crash and burn.

Never had a crash here. Okay, wait - I had one in one 12 hour gaming marathon. So yeah, depends on who you ask. And yeah, 2k is one damn greedy gaming company - but who the hell isn't these days? Unless you go all indie- and low-budget, you can't throw a rock without hitting a publisher who wants to bleed you dry for every extra pixel that isn't sold with the game.

Bunch of people have that loading issue, its a well known problem on the forums, that said not everyone has the same problems. Yeah its a sad trend, almost everyone is going down this route, its getting very frustrating. I try to do my part and vote with my money.

The what? This game is pure brilliance as far as I'm concerned and I've been playing games since the early '80s. I've seen all the Civs up until today and I love the direction they've taken Civ5.

I too was one of the pissed off angry crowd when they released Civ5. It definitely has been an unfinished game that is requiring patches to fix it up. Its a shame that these days most PC releases are bugged and require fixes. Most of the blame has to go to the publishers putting deadlines on the developers to release something. I'm just thankful that the Civ modding community came to the rescue with some great mods fixing most of the faults.

I had crashing on loading a save, 465 turns, Marathon, Huge map etc tried it at least 10 times

Got some new memory after a stick died on me, now using 3.5GB instead of 2GB, after installing the non-scene patch I can now load my savegame, just played for two hours, slowdown is much reduced and quitting to desktop is instant without any lag
Not sure if it was the memory, the patch or both but I'm happier now, I put many hours into that game
The Mongol scenario is decent too but I would not pay for it

Let me see: Civ4, plenty of civs, lots of good ideas (most of them never improved and/or implemented in the Civ5).

2k games Civ5: we are selling to you the civs and the maps at outrageous prices. Bonus: please, kind sir, betatest our product on your own money. We even let you pay us more for other parts of the game that they should have been already there. No, we won't provide you a good patch. The modding community it's charged with that. They can do it for free, but you'll still have to pay us.

Nail, you hit it.

Paradox is a bit like that too, relying on its community to fix it. Amazing stuff coming from oth communities, they are the unsung heroes.

Do you even remember how buggy Civ 4 was at launch? Shit was near unplayable as far as both, performance and gameplay was concerned.

The DLC is bullshit though

For me Civ 2 and 3 are the best. Civ4 came with a lot of good ideas that could have expanded the game once they were actually fixed or improved. Civ 5 has ideas, but no chance in hell to be fixed. Since 2k games took over Firaxis, Civ relied on fans for fixing and bringing fresh concepts out. Civ4 was already in late production when Take Two / 2k Games took over. And Civ4 was the only Civ that integrated fan-made content.

Enter 2k Games in the scene: loads of franchises are purely raped. Mafia 2 it's sold in overpriced pieces, Civ 5 it's deemed as a cash cow (never was, Civ was more of a cult game with decent sales, but not the sales that 2k Games dreamt about it) and Bioshock 2 it's brought down to a mediocre game (compared with the original).
