Jesus, all those noobs on the major PS3 hacking sites are so ridiculous. If i were a serious hacker that could get shit done in this department i wouldn't share anything with those dweebs. Makes me just cringe reading the shit people on the Internet are able to gush from their non-brains.

I dont mean anyone here, that was just a random rant cuz i just read some threads on psx-scene.

I was wondering something : what happens if I have 2 "internal hdds", update with my main hdd to 3.50, play GT5... and when i'm done with GT5 and 3.50, I replace my main HDD with another one that i can use to downgrade to 3.41. Then when i'm back on 3.41, can I use my main HDD back that was updated to 3.50 ? Will the PS3 ask me to install 3.41 files again from a usb stick and wont format it ?

I doubt anyone tried, but that would be interesting to go back & forth between 3.41 and 3.50 without wasting time using the backup utility !

it is partially on slim ps3 and fat ps3 that only have a 16MB NAND. BTW, fat ps3 with 256MB NAND doesnt get formated when downgrade since the firmware isnot store on the hdd

@Mortibus : plz be the first Smile

I'm kinda wondering the same thing actually. Perhaps not using 2 different hard drives but at least pulling all the data from one and then restoring it when I need it (presuming that's possible)

Gonna wait for the GT5 patch to come out to allow you to move save games (presuming its not out already). There's no way in hell I'm doing the grind to level 20 again, it was like pulling teeth.

The people having bluray movies playback issues after downgrading, this happens because you updated to a modified PUP (psjb one) which has its /dev_flash3/ tarball swapped (probably to a debug one, debug consoles do not sport bd movies playback) with other CRL/DRL revocation files.

It does not effect everyone, Mathieulh and others have confirmed this so at the moment its a case of fingers crossed when downgrading.

for people who are on 3.41 and wanna update back & forth, just backup dev_flash3 in case this BD drive error appears so you can always restore the files and fix your bd drive Smile

That doesn't seem to actually be the case. Because the way in which people are flashing (i.e programmable USB sticks), it almost seems a hit and miss scenario. The PSGrade appears to be better from the reports I've read and it's defintiely a problem for the others.

The latest theory is that flags aren't being set properly when coming out of service mode. It kinda makes sense as service mode disables everything in terms of BD playback, HDD functionality, wireless, etc.

Garyopa had a theory earlier...

Quote:
I think the non-working machines can be fixed by repairing the "xregistry.sys" file to correct the mistake.

The mistake I think is the dongles out there are somehow setting up the flags wrong, and making the system thinking it is machine that it is not, remember in service mode nothing is enabled, no blu-ray, no hdd, no nothing, the dongle basically causes your machine to produce a new fresh "xregistry.sys" that why all your settings get lost, psn password, wireless, and the system knows to look for the usb stick on power-up mode, etc.

Source

Actually, further reading. Nothing to do with PUP's whatsoever. Thats so far the only none conflicting evidence thats been found publically. You can put your PS3 into service mode, do nothing, then take it out of service mode and the BR functionality will disappear. Could be actual BR firmware or perhaps aacc/hdcp keys. fuck knows. Could only be related to 3.5 firmware as it appears going from 3.41 to 3.15 is fine. The minute you go near 3.5 things get tricky

So, does this mean we can actually play GT5 now? I'm not sure what's so great about this ability to boot into service mode. Can someone explain why this is good news? Thanks.

No, not directly as there is no jailbreak support for 3.5

It does mean however that you could upgrade to 3.5, play the original GT5 and then downgrade for 3.41 backups.

Because of the formatting of HDD drives when downgrading (not 100% sure if this is applicable to slims, trying to find out) then you will lose everything on your internal drive (including save games) so back everything up. Last I checked GT5 save games couldn't be moved but there's a patch coming for that.

I'm running 3.5 therefore the complete backup isn't possible as you need FTP support.

Well the only new developments i can think is now every usb device out there now supports downgrade. Oh and downgrade possibly messes up BR playback, so backup your dev flash files just in case.
