Death at a Funeral was awesome. 8/10 as well.

I brought my laptop to the hospital where my mom was recovering from some surgery she had so she wouldn't be so bored. Was almost a bad thing since it hurt her to laugh so much hehe.

Amazing how many people give skyline high score. Everyone has different taste ofc, but the story has way too many flaws and some really pathetic moments which doesnt deserve to be in a movie from this century. Hell, it felt almost like a Scifi channel movie in the end!
BUT the cgi was really great.

A friend of mine said that Skyline is the best film of the year.

This puts me in a dilemma... should I remain friends with this person?

It felt like a Sci-fi flick, but the cgi was good and refreshing. The story indeed wasn't the high point but there weren't any facepalm moments.

Anyway, 6.5 isn't a high score. Think watchable, but not realy brow-raising.

My understanding of ratings is so different. To me 5/10 is as average as it gets. So a watchable film for me is more like 4-4.5/10 but oh well Sad

He was half way changed and had chopped off one of it's tentacles so you don't have a point there

I don't remember that one liner but I don't think it's anything to facepalm over.

That on the other hand was actualy fun, pity it actualy ended there.

Death at a Funeral 8/10

Nice comedy. And finaly a comedy that isnt about anything below the belt.

The Town 7.5/10

Actually a really good movie. The acting of Affleck and supporting actors was superb.

Skyline - 3/10

A terrible rehash of other alien movies. In fact, there was another alien invasion movie featuring people trapped in an apartment building some time back. There were these huge pillars that were shooting out of the ground and into the buildings. Don't remember the name.

To the credit of the directors, they really did a good job with the effects. Especially if you consider the budget constraint. They put some bigger-budget Syfy movies to shame. New graduates of the Michael Bay school of movie-making. Very Happy

But that does not make up for a very thin plot, razzy-winning bad acting and crappy character development. I was actually rooting for the aliens because the characters were irritating and didn't have any meaningful dialogue.

And what the fuck was up with those lights? I know that they were supposed to draw the victims to the ships but did they have to give the viewer a migraine as well? I was watching the movie with a hand in front of my face even when I wasn't face-palming. Razz

Just found the name of the other alien invasion movie. For anyone interested in more of this kind of crap, it was The Blackout

Funny thing is that people actually divide in two categories - one that never cuts a slack, bashes everything and is totally unforgiving despite the movie being someone's first and very decent attempt at sci-fi and the other category (more mature probably) that is capable of seeing something good in the most desperate situation - be it a funny-looking cloud in the sky during storm or some potential in a young director's first movie.

This division is soooo clear and visible here @ nforce with our cyberwarriors trampling poor Skyline into dirt while it's - at the very least - more interesting than 10 Michael Bay or Jerry Bruckheimer cliche'd movies together.

Anyway I'm pretty sure that wise jewish producers see the same potential as few of us here do and they will help those guys make more projects.

They've done visual effects for over 15 years and have their own studio, it should be expected that it would be well made and they directed the absolutely AWFUL AvP:Requiem. So its hardly their 'first'. Plus some shorts from what I gather and several music videos

Bashing low level and/or b-class productions is quite popular here indeed. Think of armed rednecks waiting for mexicans to climb over the wall, some of them can actualy be of use(that might sound weird but you get what I mean).

I find it quite the opposite. Well made indie movies(or low budget equivalents) usually get substantial amount of praise here. Badly made of the same get equal amounts of shit heaped on them, as well they should.

The problem is no one dares to admit his guilty pleasure of liking something. Everyone lies in wait for someone to yell 'Craaaap!' and then they all yell 'Craaap!' too. You gotta look cool like the rest of the gang, right? That's the main problem. I'm pretty sure a lot of people here found the movie OK or better than average, but the TREND is to bash it so let's bash it.

The movie is good in many aspects and despite not being a masterpiece it automatically deserves better rating than Predators, Uwe Boll crap and others.
