HDR doesn't look that good to be honest. But for your information you can get HDR in HL2 and it works for ATI cards.

HDR looks good only in certain situations, but it really is worth it in those situations. I also havent noticed any real performance drop after applying the HDR mod, in fact, it seems like I got a minor FPS boost. Also, I thought HL2 allready had HDR. I'm probally wrong though, I havent been keeping track of that game at all. Its amazing how fast that game died compared to doom 3 even. At least doom3 has somewhat of a replay value, HL2 has almost no-replay value.

Hahaha, in your own little world. Yeah, Doom3's multiplayer really took off.

Hahaha, in your own little world. Yeah, Doom3's multiplayer really took off.

I was'nt talking about multiplayer, but even then, I dont find HL2 deathmatch to be very fun.
In that screenshot the HDR effect looks like crap, There are many cases where it does look good though. With the HDR mod for Doom3 you can actually toggle it on/off by pressing numpad 1.

Yeah sure that HDR rendering in HL2 looks like crap, your screenshot is so much better.
I keep forgetting that anything apart from the Doom3 engine looks like shit.

.. I said that particular screen looked bad HDR wise, because I know it could do better. I also never said that doom3's HDR looked better, because it cant, its HDR, there is nothing there to make it better.

Yeah, right on. These poor suckers, ATI users can enable so called "Smart Shader" option in their catalyst driver control panel. Download the HDR shader. Then these poor ATI fucks can have HDR in any game.
How pathetic.

What? I stopped hearing about Doom 3 a month after it came out. It only came back because of the expansion and xbox port. I haven't replayed Doom 3 once and it's not even on my comp anymore. HL2 is still on my comp and I find it's more enjoyable than Doom 3. And I still hear about it today all the time. Hasn't died at all.

ok, i seem to be having a unique problem here. when i go to try and install the game, it goes to the game rating screen and then i get a warning...
Error Number: 0x80040702
Description: Failed to load DLL: cdkey
application will now terminate.
It does this from both burned and image mounted files... I add idnet.ua-corp.com to the hosts file and that didnt do anything, dl'ed the new crackfix and thats just an .exe file and nothing about the setup.
Is my copy goofy or what?

can't you like both games both have there good and bad parts anyway and thats not hdr only 2 games out now have true hdr and thats farcry and splinter cell: ct halflife 2 is suppost to have a hdr pacth and new level coming soon but it will run like crap becuase they made it with SM2 so the top of the ati cards can use it, thats just a bloom effect
if you want to see true hdr and see how it runs on your system check this out

Is Doom³ RoE that better dan Doom III
I saw the game coplle of minutes on my brother his PC and it looks very nice, but are there open places, i don't see much diffrense wirth Doom III...:s

the X800XT can handle ALL the games I play (CS:S, D3 RoE, HL2 DM) at 1920x1200 which is the native resolution of my monitor.
I for one is very happy with a card that can run CS:S at 1920x1200 with 2xAA and 8xAF very smoothly (60fps +)

Once again, the mod is incompatible with ATI cards, so obviously that means its incompatible with ATI cards.

well it's some pretty big cave area's and the levels are nice size, I haven't played it much though
it you want to see what outdoor maps look like in doom I found a mod it for multiplayer but it's still cool
