Somewhat-related: http://gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2010/11/19/the-oddworld-game-that-never-was-the-brutal-ballad-of-fangus-klot.aspx
Quote: | What we’ve done is put our games up on Steam – the first two Abe games. We have a lot of interest in seeing how the digital distribution mechanism really works. I’ve got to tell you, we were blown away. For the first time, we’re able to tell where our sales were coming from, how many dollars we were making per day. What territories sold better last night than the night before – was it Eastern Europe, was it Southeast Asia? We’re able to see it all. We never got to know who our customer was before. |
Then he's asked if they're going to make the 5th, canceled, Oddworld game and release it on DD services and he says that they don't want to focus anymore on story games, instead they’re "looking more at where social gaming and networking is colliding, looking more at free-to-play item sales rather than $60 of product."
Quote: | If I give gamers something that’s free to play, they can get engaged – that’s like the free demo, right? But if they want to get more engaged, then they start micro-paying, so they might find after $10 into the experience, they’ve gotten plenty, and that was enough and that was fine. It didn’t cost them much to have that experience. |
Sadly he didn't say a word about the Oddbox.

Finally!!
Already have Oddysee and Exoddus (both jewelcase).
I remember i was so hyped when i heard they where making a 3d Oddworld game. But then the Xbox got released and it became an Xbox exclusive. I died a little inside that day.
I hope the get into updating the Oddysee and Exoddus graphics to be able to play in higher resolutions then 800x600. But i guess thats never gonna happen.

No, it's that a more elaborate remaster of it is being made for the PS3 with the possibility to be released on 360 as well if they manage to compress the game well.

Quote: | Today, Worldwide, Oddworld Inhabitants is announcing the Steam release date for the Oddboxx, containing four of its critically-acclaimed and award-winning classic games; Abe’s Oddysee, Abe’s Exoddus, Munch’s Oddysee and Stranger’s Wrath for PC owners.
The games will be released on Steam on the 20th of December, 2010.
IGN D2D, Stardock, Amazon, GamersGate and more, soon-to-be-announced retail download services, will also release Oddboxx, close to this release date.
The release of Oddboxx will also coincide with the first day of the Annual Steam Holiday Sale, meaning that during the first 24 hours of release, the game will be sold with 50% of its marked price discounted.
After this and until January 3rd, a 25% discount will apply to the marked price.
The Steam Holiday Sale runs from the 20th of December, through to January 3rd, as do the discounts above, exclusively through Steam.
Although the Oddboxx will be a generously-priced download that contains all four of these much-loved games, players can opt to buy the games individually.
Meanwhile, for those who make today their last day to surf the net for gaming news, make sure you check www.Oddworld.com on December 20th to receive some special treats we’ve been preparing for you guys.
We have yet more information and to come. Stay tuned… |

Nice! long past since I finished X-box Classics{yes,I enjoyed Halo and Fable:TLC,I know there is a lot of Fable and Halo haters here}
X-box emulation is taking a lot of time,so I gonna play the PC version, although I'm still X-box emulation big fan and fan of emulation in general.
I think I'm gonna support the developers with this nice package.

From the comments: http://www.jawltd.com/?p=630
Quote: | We are just finishing up on the PC version of Stranger’s Wrath. The PC version is a port of the original XBox version with a few updates and alterations, and runs very well on a 4 year old Laptop, so you might be surprised. |
The good news is that today JAW confirmed that when the HD assets from the PS3 version are ready, they're going to release a patch that will update Oddboxx Stranger's visuals.

Quote: | Truth be told the reason the PC version doesn't have the HD models is the PS3 version isn't done yet, and we wanted to get the Oddboxx out this Holiday Season.
It is HIGHLY likely we will be releasing an update for PC at a later date!

Another bit of info I've discovered: http://www.jawltd.com/?p=652

The PC version is certainly lossy, however we are using a custom codec from the chaps at FMod |

Yes, the first 2 games would include Steam Achievements in this release. I am not aware of any other enhancements, and if there are any I guess they would be trivial (like.. 360 gamepad prompts).

No, they're not.
Abe's PSX games are still the same old low resolutions. Abe's Odyssee also has aweful gamepad support, showing letters instead of button numbers/names
Exoddus does that slightly better by properly numbering the buttons. Both of these obviously run fine on my 1.6GHz/2GB/GMA4500 laptop.
Also gave Munch a try - proper 360 pad support in this, resolution is 1024x768 and this also runs fine on my laptop! YAY
Haven't checked for any config files to up the resolution or tweak any visuals though!
