How do you transfer files from your pc to the ps3? I bought a ps3 and I don't see a cable for that purpose. Someone enlighten me please.

I'm not asking this question for the jailbreak purposes. Just that I want to transfer video's to my ps3. So can someone help me? Smile

tried ftping with ethernet cable?
sorry i assumed that if u familiar with jbking u would know basic file transfer protocol
either ftp server or any game loader that has ftp server built-in will do, that's application that u have to install u also need filezilla to transfer from your pc to ps3

dunno which directory corresponds to video files tho, coz i mainly used my ps3 for gaming needs
u can also simply copy video files to usb device and from there to ps3

Without dicking about with IIS (or similar); just copy the files onto a USB stick/HDD drive and watch them from that.

Alternatively, you could always setup PS3 Media Server and stream from your PC.

3rd option; jailbreak it and setup an FTP server

You probably already know this, but i just use MKV2VOB it will automatically convert and split into sizes you can copy straight to your PS3 and play.

I get some issues with some mkvs where the sound just doesn't play , or i get this static sound playing instead of the actual sound.

I think it's got something with DTS or some crap like that or maybe it might just be my silly old sdtv that i use. Most tv shows i download work flawlessly but actual movies more often than not , don't Sad

You need to transcode the dts if you dont use a sound system (IIRC)

is there anywhere a good compilation of common knowledge answers? like: what ftp server to install on ps3, what is the purpose of the downgrader (is it only for those who accidentally updated, or you can update-downgrade and still retain all the functions of the upper firmware like playing online or whatever), are the updates for jb compatible with each other or you have to wait while the manufacturer updates it, etc.

bought a ps3 and there is simply too much information out there and it seems like everyone knows this stuff, but it's hard for those that are just starting using the ps3 and jb.

read the faq on psx-scene but it doesn't really cover much and it seems outdated

err some game loaders have ftp built-in no need for dedicated one, gaia manager etc

u can get all files here

http://www.ps3-hacks.com/ and here http://ps3.brewology.com/homebrew/

u can only downgrade from 3.50 and purpose is well jb obviously Laughing

latest fw is 3.55 which means u can't play on-line with 3.50 anyway

info is all over the place it's just coz u are lazy doesn't mean there isn't any

yeah, info is there, but i thought maybe there is something like wiki that explains it in clear and structurized way so i don't have to go over a hundred forums Razz

It's the up to date and the forums are slightly more organised that have a single post about the whole entire topic.

It really depends on what USB dongle you have.
You basically need the firmware of choice, flash the dongle with the firmware and then follow the usual steps.

Google is your best bet, So for the AT90's tutorials
