First of all take a look here if you find something interesting:
http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=216690
What Im using is quite an extensive list and I cannot guarantee full stability for everyone.
NOTE: This can quite complicated to install, READ BEFORE ACTING.
Main Mod: Ship Rebalance Mod: Continued v0.861
This is the main mod, everything else you get must be stable with this. READ THE ENTIRE THREAD OF THIS MOD FIRST!
Improved Races
This is the largest sub mod, also pay good attention to what you need with this and what you cannot use with this!
Some of these mods recommend addons, often of the same type of those you already have! Pay attention that you dont install 2 different missile rebalance mods for example!
So you can install these recommended addons just fine, but pay attention to what they do so you dont ruin your setup with shit you dont want or isnt compatible.
EDIT2: Im not sure about Amurph0's Shipyards, I remember having issues with it but then again I use about 15 other mods besides these which I edited myself to be compatible. It should be fine... I think..
The Combat Mod 3, Pirate Guild, Improved Races, NPC Bailing Addon, MARS, Amurph0's Shipyards, Missile Rebalance Mod, Medusa Missile system, Advanced Jumpdrive, Anarkis Defense System. (Complex Cleaner, for those who are going to be having HUGE complexes this is a must, but for the starting user not planning to fully utilize the possibility of factories this is not needed.)
Trade/Salvage/etc SCRIPTS/MODS: This is one you should pick yourself, there are so many good ones and each has its own specific strong points so pick what seems best to you.
(You will need alot of tiny plugins like AL libraries etc)
Act with patience and intelligence, it took me one day to get this right but its so worth it. Just read and you'll be fine.
If you think Ive left out a mod you think is more then awesome just post it.
EDIT: Make sure you have the latest patch by the way!

Jesus fuck just flew through Mars sector with my m6, cruisin around and suddenly a bunch of xenon jump in behind me. Everything was okay until the ATF M7M opened up its missile batteries. Suffice to say I couldnt dodge all those missiles in time... Goddamn ATF and their drastic measures.

So I don't have a joystick, should I rather stay away from this?

Not really since I rarely use mine. Cant properly manage my fighter wings with the joystick. Mouse combat is just fine, but make sure you set all your hotkeys in easy to reach places. Shits gonne be hard work to fly and keep your fleet moving.

Does anybody knows if the X3: Terran Conflict Update 3.0, is protection free.
I don't remember if the protection was removed in one of the last patches.

Just started playing this. Played the previous X3, and some X2 but never for more than a few hours. Hoping I'll finally finish this one.
It's the type of game that I'd normally like, but they never really drew me in.

could never get into this game at all, not even x2.. I will be honest here, I found it difficult to play, and i dont mean controls I mean my skill level for it was or seemed subpar... Even the first few shooting tutorial missions that happen I remember finding it hardcore and it didnt overly make me enjoy it as i was being raped from range so often..
With anything new expanding it, it just makes my view of the game even more overwhelmed.

Yeah the learning curve is steep in the beginning, and none of the games imo introduce new players into the gameplay all that well. You'd probably want something like the X3 Handbook unless you want to take the hard way and learn everything yourself.

Fucking hell is this game unforgiving. This is the first time I've played it and it feels like the game is determined to set a high score in game over screens.
I've been playing for 6 hours and a while ago I accepted a combat mission described as easy. I'm still flying a Saber(If this was any other game I'd be master of the universe by now) and a Xenon fucking corvette comes at me. It took me almost 5 minutes to kill that bitch. I don't remember the last game that forced me manuever this much.
But when the xenon ship blew up it was awesome.
Of course, when trying to dock after the fight I accelerated when I should have slowed down and turned myself into graffiti on a argon trading station.
Anyway, does anyone know where I can buy the best buy and sell locator, finally have enough cash to buy a freighter, gonna try some trading.

Hmm, I think you can pick one up right in the Ore Belt if you are on that side of town.. if you do wanna make a bit more cash after the freighter, ore belt is the honest way to do it. Run energy from the solar plants to the ore mines, and ore from the mines to the solar plant.
Splattering your shit all over random things seems to never go away, Every once in a while as you are going through a jumpgate a battleship will try to come through and smear you as well. When you BUY a battleship, it's like driving a bus with bugs just smacking against your windshield every 3 seconds.

Oh..if you can't find one in the Ore belt check the Major sectors such as Argon Prime, or Omnicron Lyrae if you started over there. Also this map is a godsend, you can search for what you need.

If there is one thing I learned, auto save when docking and salvage claims, a crucial part of this game.
Seriously, save; Alot.

Use auto-pilot to dock and you won't crash.
I think the best buy/sell is found in teladi space.

Agreed.. If you are doing anything of value, stop and dock at every possible place to autosave, Dying is so infuriating it took me probably 20 game restarts until I found my pace in the game.
Auto dock is so much less fun than manual dock, especially in the recessed bases. The scale of the bases really comes into play when you shimmying into those holes. Not sure if you noticed, but if you are going too fast for the dock, a warning triangle or such will flash by the dock point until you reach the right speed. It is based off of your ships speeds so no real universeal number to follow, but once you figure it out for a specific ship and know its rate of slowing down, can just haul ass into the docking ports -- Occasionally you'll still run into a ship on the way in though so it helps to dock at 90 degree angle from the one the auto follows, keeps you out of the traffic lane.
The most fun/aggrivating way to get some decent early cash is into head into some of the nebulous zones that have real low visibility but are huge and empty. These areas usually serve as trade lanes for heavy tanker transporters and there is no security. You can equip your ship with weapons that will knock shields off quickly but do very little hull damage and begin to attack them. You will want to keep moving because they all have turrets and aim for them if possible (not sure if actually hitting the turret matters but I always try to) Once you clear their behind or whatever angle you find the least opposition, just stalk them at a matched speed slowly chipping away at their health. Maybe 25-50% of the time the pilot will abandon ship, you can jump out of your ship, claim it, then get back into your fighter and tell the stolen ship to head to the nearest shipyard for sale. This will reduce faction with whichever ship owner you decide to start aiming for, but it is a decent source of cash if you are not playing story mode. Make sure you save after every ship steal, for one you will occasionally attack the wrong vessel and they will be armed to the teeth, and two when you damage them that much they move extremely slow, will take them like an hour just to reach the base and they become extremely vulnerable.
