First thing I've been tempted to buy from gog just to have it. I probably spent as many hours on these as I did on the gold box AD&D games. For me, $7 is a steal for this. Well, assuming it even runs on a modern system.

(yes, I cut the end of that quote off because the rest of it was borderline retarded)

Played the hell out of these over the summer (I'm 23 and had never played any of these when they were around). I pretty much just played 6, couldnt stomach the earlier ones. 6 was very fun, very combat oriented, and could be very difficult at times... but addictive as hell.

They work, but can need some additional tuning to function properly on post-XP systems, read guides and such online about how to set them up.
(Don't use 3D acceleration and the like, was a while since I played them so don't fully remember, earlier ones pre-MM6 will likely use DosBox.)

Ah good to know, I had to replace the exe of the later M&M titles with adjusted ones to fix bugs on newer OS systems and 3D acceleration had to be disabled for them, although that might have been only for the seventh and eight games which aren't included in this compilation.
(They're not bad but were considered dated and crude when they were released, M&M 9 had a similar fate but was also heavily rushed.)

Yeah, by 1998 (release date of MM6) 3d gaming had taken the industry over for the most part

isnt half the point of GOG that their releases work without any problems on modern systems? which would make the discussion about running it redundant Smile

The thing is that sometimes as Hfric mentions they use community fixes and solutions much like Dosbox (Now with their permission.) and the like to make the games compatible as the source code and extensive knowledge and time it would take to re-make the game to be more compatible often isn't possible. (I don't think it's ever been done, Arx Fatalis uses the semi unofficial 1.19f patch which is the closest to the above as far as I'm aware.)

Started replaying the later parts of the Might and Magic series, for anyone else doing so I did find some very useful patches that fixed and improved all sorts of things and improves compatibility on newer systems (Older fan made patches also did this but these new make many other improvements.)

http://www.portailsmm.com/comm/downloads.html

I've mostly preferred MM6 though for it's more hand-painted original art (Similar to HoMM 1 and 2 though 3 and 4 certainly don't look bad or anything.) than the half-CG 3D rendered art in the sequels.
(MM9 I've not bothered much with at all due to it's pretty unfinished nature amongst other faults.)

EDIT: That futuristic end-game content though is a bit odd but was also part of how Might and Magic began but more heavily featured in 4 and 5. Smile
(Similar to Wizardry, might replay it as well but the final trilogy 6 - 8 is quite a bit older though DOSBox would likely solve most of this.)

gog games work and are compatibile? Bullshit. When game required dos back in 1995, they release it with dosbox installer and shortcut so that You need 3ghz for smooth framerates on old games

3+4+5 was the pinnacle of the series imo. I never could get into the latter games.
