It even possible for the wrong drivers to screw a graphic card up? got an old x1950 card in decided to update the drivers after update and reboot pc wont start up. its deffo the card as iv tested a 5770 and that boots up ok any way to fix?

No, not directly. There have been driver issues like not spinning up the fan, but you'd have to have it doing some work for some time before it would overheat
