I think; really, the mood on nForce has been sinking during the last few weeks. I do not know if it's associated with a slow spring, or whatever, but there has been a bit too much personal confrontations on the really abrasive level on the forum, particularly in the World Politics-section. I seriously think that forum needs more active moderation, in the same way ... what's his name? Took care of the gaming-threads. He did a really good job putting some order there, and that's an improvement.

I seriously think someone needs to emphasize the guidelines of that forum, and start enforcing them. Maybe by putting a system where you can get... let's say... 7 warnings, before you get permanently banned. (which of, after 3 you get banned for 3 days, after 4, four days, etc.).

I'd be willing to help out, but since I think people will react, and think I'm too biased and partial, perhaps someone else is a better choice though.

Something needs to be done though.

fisk - You're very right. Unfortunately I can't be everywhere. The gaming, hardware, operating systems, applications, handhelds, general sections is where I mod mostly. I also reside in the World headlines section but I don't have so much time modding it. You must also consider some users don't like the "order" and the new design and given me + some other mods a lot of shit so I won't go further with this. At least according to how it looks now. If you're thinking in the "new order" directions I'll be happy to "hire" you but that would be the Admins choice.

Remember that the warning system is already designed and in the works.

I suggested rules against trolling, bashing and so but I don't think it will be implemented.

I don't think that heated discussions is bad, it's when it turns into: "You're a fucking idiot", "Stfu", or rather; when any discussion ends up more about two people bickering at eachother (such as I've done with Mchart, and as I do on certain occasions with Animal Mother(Though, it's usually sort of charming with AM, he's got intellect).

I think that what mainly needs to be done, is for the topics to stay to the subject. Whenever someone aims personal remarks, it usually gets ugly.

We seriously need to lower the tolerance-bar... or even closer to the truth: there needs to be one, because it's somewhat nonexistant right now.

We also need some more active and contributing mods to some sections. It's pretty obvious that certain sections are practically empty of moderation.

Who *really* wants to mod an area devoted to politics essentially. Its not possible, I do think we need to try and put some moderation in place, but that is one forum that just can't be owned.. it is about opinion, and moderating it could stop that expression. We do however, need to ban the ass holes Razz!

Ill be the first to go.. *holds up hands* lol

As for the other sections, I think they're AMAZINGLY well moderated and kept up, kudo's to all those involved.

It's not hard to mod such a section, whenever someone starts to throw pies, you can delete that text, warn the person in question, etc.

Everytime we try to mod World News, people have kittens about how they don't have freedom of speech, BLAH BLAH BLAH.

So it's come down to:
If you can't take the heat stay out of the kitchen.

The rest of the sections are usually very civil. Smile

Well I must say I was behind the comment: "I really hope they do" in relation with a very very bad placed post in the pope thread...Im sorry that I reacted that way, but its just so damn stupid and disrespectful to post that kind of stuff...

this opinion is actually part of the problem sTo0z. You are saying just because mods were getting some resistance from some members while trying to enforce rules you mods quit moderating this forum? That's not the right way, imagine police acting like this. Moderating the world headlines can be done, just take care of people who like to insult people on a personal level. Smile

Fisk is right about the problems, and they can be dealt with by strict moderating. Razor1394 is doing a very good job, but one person isn't enough, and he still has to argue with some members, who were already bannned in the past, about some rules they obviuosly don't like. So if this board doesn't want to go the "orange" way something has to be done, and i'm sure some of us are willing to help out to get things straight Smile

its hard to go about figuring what's heated arguments and what's flaming, the thing's you quoted mostly come from some posts that have some useful info in them... trust me i tried the heavy handed approach and suddenly everyone hated me, and i was hearing it from the admins... you do not see the people i PM about toning down their swearing and fights and such, and some comments do get edited by me but they have to be heavy flaming, cause heated discussions get personal sometimes, if you can objectively disagree with someone and let say throw a " oh shut up, this is how it was....." does that warrant a warning, ban or edit??? i honestly do not think so, people in world news are usually above the age of 21 anyway so we are not corrupting anyone, and we have ENOUGH trolling in games sections, so its not a problem which is only in world news.

this quote
""Once again sj posts some crap and all jump on the bandwagon.

is from 4me2 , i think all of us who hang in world news know that he is bothered by sexyjesus and can't stop talking about him, he was warned a couple of times before, but he contributes ALOT to other discussion i be damned if i just ban him for hating sexy jesus...

this is a public forum, with ALOT of people and ALOT more opinions, you have the censor the most extreme idiots, but specially in worldnews, censoring the smallest words or comments seems childish in a very mature forum.

sorry forgot to add... you are the one to talk, your first comment about the pope's death was "I really admire his silly anti-abortion, anti-condom, anti-woman crap... also, I'm sure the homosexuals will really miss him... ^^"

not really adding anything , but then again this is your ideas and that is just fine... and yet you go on off topic arguing with everyone else when they get angry at an idiot who made a idiotic comment... for someone who wants moderation and rules and guide lines you yourself broke a few driving the thread into who can spell better and who is right and wrong...

its funny, people's opinion of worldnews changes thread by thread... if they like what they hear on the thread all is good, but if they don't hear things they like *cough* *cough* then they get angry Smile

I'm not going on the personal level with anyone on the forum (with that quote), and it's a fact that he's anti-abortion, anti-condom, and anti-woman (didn't think women should be priests, thought it was morally wrong for women to work, etc.) and he had a pretty hard line towards homosexuality (thus, the reason why homosexuals probably won't miss him that much).

I think it contributed, since I doubt many people know that John Paul II was conservative this way. So, absolutely, I think that was a valid post, and I do not think it goes away from what I was saying in this thread about pie-throwing and inside-bickering.

I think they were really heartless, and basically did the very same thing that the person they "attacked" did. It's like shouting to complain about someone who's shouting.

Oh, and please check your facts... it was dryan who started spell-checking me, not the other way around.

So, since you all knew he usually act this way, it's suddenly 'ok' to use the same "mature" style back? Doesn't that somehow drag you down to his level?

My ideas is not what we're debating here, I didn't resort into namecalling.

I did wonder about the "hypocrisy"-spelling, and I should've responded in a PM (as could dryan have written it in a PM too)

I think that this spelling-issue is a rather minor thing compared to ie. saying you hope someone will die of a heartattack and that this person's parents will be happy about it.

you are right, unneeded comments, but you make it sound like the whole forum is going down in flames and that angers me cause its not true... Jesus world news is second most active forum after games, honestly don't you think people would leave and the forum would die if problems were so huge???

those few unneeded comments don’t add much but they don't take much away from the whole discussion either, TRUST me people who keep on doing it do get banned (remember starter???) so we do keep on top of repeat offenders but people who contribute usually have a level of small freedom and enjoy censor free environment, which is crucial to any political forum. so while a couple of their stupid comments go unpunished ( which is no big deal really) they add to the discussion alot in other threads.

This is the way it's always been, as long as I've been normally visiting NFOrce at least.

I have been a lurker for a couple years and always noticed n00bs getting pounced on and banned almost instantly, name-calling, put-downs, tons of swearing, and other shenanigans.

It's just kind of the way NFOrce is. *shrug*

No, I don't expect the forum to "respect noobs", and an insta-ban is just fine, I'm just saying that's how these forums are and have been as long as I've been perusing them.

And I could give a crap less about isonews. Wink
