All I see/hear are the career grinds and photomode picks.
I am still tempted with PS3/GT5 but for me its all about the online racing. |
I won't be going onilne to see so I can't answer that. From what i've read it's just a bunch of people ramming you and acting like twats. I suppose if you are racing with your friends that's a different story tho.
I also have to agree with the career mode of these games needing a change and i'll add to it - why do I always have to start off with a fucking hatchback piece of shit with 90hp and spend the entire game working my way up to the car I want to drive so that by the time I race a few races with it the career is over.

It really isn't that bad, for one they have protections built ingame for this cases. If someone is ramming or doing some wacky stuff, they immediately become ghosts. They can still drive, but can't crash into anyone. If that isn't enough you can enable high penalty mode that punishes ramming even further (you do get some penalties for nothing on this one, tho). You also have options available to prevent people from taking shortcuts and you also have damage so crashing is further punished. Still, the number of immature users is quite large and you can spend some time searching for a nice server.
Now to just buy it for online is not a good idea. For one, you only have some 30 cars available to drive from the start and they aren't tuned to the max so you really need to buy your own cars and you must go through career earning money to do that. There are few ways to speed this process, you can share cars among friends and you can cheat by using savegame or "birthday" glitches to get some cash, but you'll still be forced to play the career to get high enough level to buy cars.

That has never happened to me after more than 10 hours of play. |
It happened to me tonight racing the Le Man Track. My car topped out at 115 (it was a 67 jag) and the CPU topped out about 130. On the straight it had all the road but I was stuck on the racing line and it ploughed straight into the back of me. Completely unavoidable and completely unnecassary.
I think my real issue with the game is that it tries to be a simulator then dumps you with arcade racing. None of the races follow any race rules (i.e. actual real life certified rules) nor is there the element of racing such as qualifying. I guess however, I'll let them off as their catch phrase is "The real driving simulator" which, all except rally may be true but I'd perfer the "The real racing simulator".
Plus the grind. Even when they set a max BHP, essentially all it means is if you sit your car on this BHP level, you'll win. The first 20+ levels are a waste of time as they're frightfully easy.

@Apeape
You can manually toggle Patch Mode on/off simply by pressing R1 in MultiMan at the game list =)

I've just grabbed the euro eboot for it.
I'm a little behind the times therefore need to downgrade and all that.
edit:
Oh, and for those that haven't seen. There's a thread over at psx-scene with confirmed eboots for the 3.5+ games (and the reason some games black screen)

If it makes any difference; I've been running with Patched Mode enabled on all my games... I've encountered no adverse effects yet. In fact, I'm playing a few games that positively REQUIRE it (like Folklore for the sixaxis movements and White Knight Chronicles for voices in cutscenes)

mh any idea why the game "crashes" after copying a track? i use hermes4b payload, multiman in patched mode,gt5 eu version on internal and original bd in drive, game starts up fine. but every time a new track needs to be installed the bar loads up and when its full nothing happens, hdd led is off, so it does not do anything after that point

I don't, I'm afraid. I've been using the US version and I've had no issues yet.

Maybe disable hdd auto-install into the game options then and make sure you remove installed data.

It's pretty fun, but definitely not as good (so far....) as Gran Turismo 2. I've never played any of the Forza games so I can't compare them, but then; I'm an arcade racer fan anyhow. Gimme GRID and Ridge Racer any day ^_^

Now , if GRID had as much content as GT5 , that would've been a freaking great game !

True... but at least EVERY car in Grid has a proper model with a proper cockpit. It's such a shame there are only 20% of the cars in GT5 that are "premium" -- for crying out loud, not even the Mitsubishi GTO Twin Turbo (ALL varieties, my all-time favourite) have premium models.

No, honestly. I'm not trolling and I'm not hating on the game either, just baffled by some of the decisions. Why does a Go Kart used for two races have a premium model, where an MR supercar like the GTO TT, that you will most likely use for the majority of the game, look like boiled ass? I actually do like the game. A little. It's fun and that's all I care about, since I'm not interested in a super-realistic sim (rFactor or a heavily modded NFS-Shift would be the best choices there), but I just think it could have been a lot better, especially considering the development time.
Five years dev. 80%+ of the models are ugly as sin and missing something basic such as cockpits. HEAVILY aliased visuals. 2D scenery. Bizarre choices of premium/standard models. Laughable damage system. Grinding-for-cash gameplay.
... but yes, I am still having a lot of fun =)

Uhm, the GTO TT isn't MR (mid-engined rear wheel drive) - it's a front-engined all-wheel drive car
But the model was named GTO MR, and in this case, MR means Mitsubishi Racing, since the MR model was their top-of the line GTO.
The MR-models were also reintroduced with the Lancer Evo 8, and they still make MR-models to this day with the Evo X.
Not trying to diss you or anything Sabin (<3), I just wanna share my knowledge when I can
Watercooled 5950X | AORUS Master X570 | Asus RTX 3090 TUF Gaming OC | 64Gb RAM | 1Tb 970 Evo Plus + 2Tb 660p | etc etc
