Sounds good 'til now. I hope they just improve the first one, not making the game derp-style and than add something different than the first Shift just to say that it's Shift 2. Oh and, Leo, I see that you're a really big fan of Shift .

I am.
Shift with mods is really my favorite driving game. If Shift 2 can build on that, while not removing essentials like modding support and the underlying simulation engine (even if disabled for console ), then nothing bad can come from that.
Shift's vanilla handling is hardly garbage when compared to 99% of the other "AAA" titles. And I lol'd at calling HP an "action" title, what action is that? Keeping the throttle maxed and win with ease?
Don't like the helmet cam though. Your helmet doesn't move like that in relation to your head. I'ts stuck to your head so it needs to sit almost still and the car should be shaking only.

i wonder what helmet cam would look like from this guys perspective
skip to 2:36
steering wheel looks like it would break a nerds arms (wastegate on the turbo had jammed shut and engineers estimated it was putting out 1100BHP , it clocked 236mph in a straight line on that lap)
btw this is a guy who people take the piss out of for beeing stupid but check how he handles that fuckiing beast, rumour has it his team told him to give up the lap and come in to the pitts but he turned the radio off and set the fastest lap by an impressive 6 seconds.
Need for Speed Shift 2 Unleashed will include the 2010 FIA GT1 World Championship & GT3 European Championship among lots of other racing content, new features include a new helmet camera, night racing and more realistic physics.
I must admit that this descripion is very interesting..

Id take that with a grain of salt till a track list appears, the way its said there gives the impression that they have all the cars and tracks and a way of actually running the championship in the game including pitstops ,qualifying etc.
Id love if that was true but well im getting to the stage where i just assume that whats in game is exactly the opposite of what the pr guys say.
...Shanghai and Bathurst help fill out the track list, and the addition of the official FIA GT licence brings with it a fleet of desirable race cars as well as an opportunity for Soderlund to play as himself. The track list runs to around 100 with 130 cars to hurl around them - numbers that are eclipsed by Gran Turismo 5...
But not what tracks and as far as im aware GT1 races dont run on Bathurst
Also the 100 tracks, i wonder if that also means 100 different locations, or is it like a codemuckers game where 1 track can have 4 or 5 slight variations, or split up in to 4 parts which are then called as being 4 or 5 different tracks eg Dirt
As they seem to have a gt, drift and drag racing drivers (advising) them, that 100 tracks could mean 33 to each disipline, break the gt tracks down to a couple of variations each and then you could end up with maybe only 12 gt race track locations. also do we assume they are all real world locations.
But as its a new year and a new beginning ill give them the benefit of the doubt for now.
They get the benefit of the doubt from me, since the original Shift was such a brilliant surprise
Fantastic game in a franchise I had declared dead. I just hope they realise that the modding community was a large part of its success, perhaps release some tools and make it easier? :>

on the shift 1 site for tracks they say
Need for Speed SHIFT has 19 tracks that can be raced more than 50 different ways, plenty of pavement to flex your racing muscle.
100 actual tracks seems a bit high though maybe they will really have around 40 tracks 100 different ways which pretty much double shift1
that would seem more like it, 30 to 40 tracks, 13 are need for the gt3 and gt1 championships
add Bathurst and Shanghai(F1 or DTM ?) thats 15, the rest could be fictional or and drift and drag tracks.
hopefully The Green Hell will return, theres no reason they couldn't have all the tracks from the previous game
pwerelds I aggree the game doubled in value because of the work of the modders, but as its the devs that are getting paid, it should be them having the game in a finished state or at least fixing the bugs (brake bias slider still *ucked in the menu, input lag, and using nvida Physx on cpu) as well as all the typo errors that the modders have found.
so when saying a game is good or bad it should be judged on the way that the devs or publisher left it, not on how it is after third parties came and fixed a lot of stuff.

I agree that they need to do it without bugs, but even with the bugs it was a fine game, by far the best racing game in quite a while*. Before Shift it was GRID for me, Dirt 2 annoyed the living shit out of me and even the first Dirt wasn't particularly great (but better then #2).
* That's ignoring the obvious ones like LFS, GTR, etcetera, no commercial racing game will ever be like any of them

At the end of 2011 both rFactor 2 and GTR 3 should be released (but probably GTR 3 will see the light in 2012 since the informations are still extremely scarce).
In any case, seems that driving simulations have still quite a bright future on the PC
