Silent Hill 8, originally announced and trailered at E3 2010, has had a title change. The game, in development at Vatra Games and set to arrive later this year, has been officially titled Silent Hill: Downpour. The latest issue of Game Informer has a new preview on the title.
The demo shown to the magazine took place in the outskirts of Silent Hill. Apparently, the town is so large that the developers implemented a subway system for players to travel between points. The area explored in Downpour is the southeastern part of Silent Hill seen on maps, but never explored, in past games. Locations such as schools and hospitals will not return.
There will be various side-quests for the player to take on.
On combat, players can avoid fights when it's possible (run, scaredy cat, run). Boss battles, on the other hand, aren't avoidable and will enforce quick-time events when needed. Weapons used against enemies will weaken and break; there is no weapon inventory.
As the title may have suggested, water plays a huge role in Downpour.

-demo takes place in the outskirts of SH
-the town is so large that you can use a subway system to travel between focal points
-sidequests
-avoid fights when possible, better to deliver incapacitating blows and run away (so good!)
-boss fights with quicktime events (not so good)
-water plays a huge part in the game, bizarre water effects like what looks like an upside down river flowing across a ceiling is described
-prominent locations in the older installments like schools and hospitals will not return
-the southeastern part of Silent Hill that you see on the maps in the older games but never go to is the area that will be explored in Downpour
-no weapon inventory, weapons weaken and break
-there will be puzzle difficulty options

4 was a fucking disgrace and homecoming was a pile of shite.
No team silent, no silent hill.

Saner is not being serious. Unless its the subject of Santa!

I really liked Shattered Memories. Granted, Akira Yamoka still had a hand in SM. And yes, Silent Hill 4: The Room and Silent Hill 5: Homecoming were steaming piles of garbage.
Silent Hill 3 was awesome, the best for me, even graphically for the PS2 back then... Silent Hill 4 was weird but was ok, I enjoyed it... Silent Hill 5 = PIECE OF SHIT.. Why isn't team silent doing any more silent hill ?
i wonder when they will actually explain what is going on in the town. What soon 8 games and a movie and you don't really know how silent hill became how it is now.
The creatures from that trailer are terrible, seriously not only are they bad looking on a technical level but the design is also just so bad. The sliding into the otherworld with water is pretty cool though and could no doubt be a great way to go to the otherworld. Also reading and listening to some of the designers talking about downpour has me a lot more confident in this than I had in homecoming where the devs sadly just didn't get it, I doubt it will be of the same quality as the first 4 but I am hoping, less can do though as long as they don't shit all over the silent hill name.

Afaik there are a good few he's not in anyway so thats nothing new.
He was only supposed to be in one, just putting him in there to please idiots who don't get silent hill is terrible and dumb, something which describes silent hill homecoming pretty well. That pyramid head is not in the game is amazingly great news, sadly he is going to be in the new movie too which also completely shits on the lore of the first games.

Looks like poor man's Alan Wake, nothing like the other SH games.
No pyramid head this time. It's already confirmed...
How the hell does it look like alan wake? Because the very first part of the game is in the woods? Other silent hill games had you in the woods as well, alan wake hasn't got patent on that.
