dude i had no idea you could update your games without being connected to PSN. thank you so much for sharing that info. hell i dont need geohot or any cfw now since it's actually installing some of the shit from the gt5 disc to the hard drive.
would've been nice to have the ability to back up my save file yesterday when i dropped a half million on some bullshit cars that were not worth it. just wanted to say thanks!
p.s. - am i the only one that finds it odd you can do ecu upgrades on say, for instance, a '69 camaro or a 74 countach? these vehicles were carbureted and didn't use any sort of efi, it hadn't even been invented yet i don't think. i know from first hand experience that 69 camaro would have nothing electronic on it. it doesn't even sound like a 69 camaro.. ahh but anyway thanks man.

i keep forgetting not everyone is as awful as microsoft. i just assumed it would be the same for updating games on the ps3. good to know the 3rd party controller i bought a few years ago will no longer work since updating to 3.50... guess they have a little microsoft in them heh

Ah well, if Geohot does release his tools then PERHAPS some enterprising hacker will be able to figure out which code Sony implemented that blocks non-approved HWIDs, hopefully bringing back 3rd-party devices.

Hy, I just bought a new tv and will get a PS3 (came with it) in 2 weeks
Now, I was wondering how the ps3key thing works.
I've been reading some stuff but it's far from clear to me.
Correct me if I'm wrong:
When I use ps3key I can get updates to my games?
I can play online with my friends with both bought games as well as pirated ones? Trophys still work even if I'm on an older firmware
When Sony releases new firmware, will the ps3 update it automaticly?
I've bought the ps3key, new firmware gets release and they update there keys, so I can just authenticate mine and download the new update from the site to my key? Or do I have to buy a new one?
I need an external HDD but I only found it needs to be in FAT32, is this true?

1. Yes, but you need to update your PS3Key via their website. Latest is v4, if I'm not mistaken.
2. No, you can't YET play online (no PSN for anything lower than 3.55) Once 3.55 has been hacked for backups then yes, you'll be able to play online with pirated copies. Just don't cheat/hack >_>
3. No. You have to manually update (it will prompt you, just press NO)
4. Yes, see #1. You can update your PS3Key without buying a new one.
5. Yes, the USB drives (whether thumb stick or HDD) need to be FAT32

Confirmed. Packages signed with his tools do not function on anything other than HIS customised 3.55 firmware, meaning Geohot - the egotistical COCKSUCKER - is every bit the fucking hypocrite and attention-whore that people have painted him to be.
Use HIS firmware, or go to hell, because only HE has the signing keys and HE isn't releasing them to anyone. Use HIS software or get JACK SHIT.

I don't get it, does he not realise how hated he is going to be. He could be a legend with everyone praising him and his efforts for many years but instead people are just going to hate him. So far, for the average user, the only thing he has done is to get OtherOS removed.

I don't think he really cares about positive or negative attention, he just wants more attention. I remember when he supposedly quit working on PS3 stuff awhile back, before the jailbreak, when progress was slowing down.
Now that the PS3 is a hot topic again, especially thanks to failoverflow, he is back in the saddle, lapping up attention like a cheap whore. In fact, he might get even MORE attention this way, by pissing everyone off. He has already gotten "interviewed" by the BBC for crying out loud.
I'm pretty sure he acts the same way over on the iphone scene. Didn't he ninja release a jailbreak method early because another group was waiting for apple to upgrade the firmware, and they wanted to hold off on the release so apple couldn't patch the hole right away?

I'm done discussing this asshole. 3.41 offers everything I want/need except PSN .. and if it means keeping my backups, my homebrew, my DIGNITY... then I'm happy to forego PSN access by not using Geohot's 3.55.

So I can't play with pirated copys, OK, but what with bought games?
Or won't it work cause you have a lower firmware then you should have?

They may only work on his MFW / CFW at the moment because his is the only one that removes certain checks.
Dont know about the one that came out today, but Kakorota's (sp??) only add's the "Install Packages" it doesnt remove certain signing checks.

Correction to what I said earlier, he's just posted the source code on GITHUB.

If you're on 3.41 then no, you won't be able to play online AT ALL, simply because you can't get PSN access without being on 3.55. Basically it works out like this;
1. If you're running Geohot's 3.55; Only original games work. No backups. But you get PSN.
2. If you're running 3.41 with a JB device; All games work. Including backups. But you can't get on PSN.
It's a toss up right now; do you want PSN or do you want backups? If you want backups and can wait a few weeks... please do so. I have ZERO doubt that we'll get a 3.55 soon that has Backups support.

Well hey, that's something.
In either case, the PS3 has been incredibly entertaining lately. Get something really interesting announced almost daily, sometimes two or three times a day. Reminds me back when the PSP scene was big and you'd get releases of all sorts of crap all the time.

I use my PS3 controller for 1P games, but I also use my Saitek P3200 for any 2P gaming .... which is no longer an option, sadly, since Sony blocks non-Sony controllers.
