Does a thread like this already exist? ... Heh anyway, as the title says, for the first time ever I was finally able to buy a hal decent and non-budget graphics card. I've lived off off sub $100 cards long enough I wanted to treat myself to something pretty. So staying in a more modest budget I got a 6850. I'm playing Bad Company 2 with all the trimmings, at my monitors native res with nary a hiccup. And damn does it ever look good!

Trying to help cure my consoletarditis and getting back to my pc gaming roots. So, what have I missed in the last...oooh... year or two?

crysis.

seriously... every time you upgrade your pc, you owe it to yourself to install /reinstall crysis, because its still the sexiest looking motherfucker out there.

in fact im pretty sure its an unwritten rule that this is the first game automatically installed after every upgrade...

everyone should actually keep a 4gb USB flash-drive with Crysis Portable or something like that to instantly check how it runs with every new drivers and shit Smile

Divinity 2 is the sequel to Divine Divinity right? Does it keep any of the fucking awesome shit that made Divine Divinity fucking awesome? Also King's Bounty was posted twice, I'm guessing it's just that good? Smile

As for Crysis, I've been back and forth on whether or not I should give it a try. I've never had a pc this good in a long time, and even by today's standard it's pretty low rate. Who am I to argue unwritten rules tho...

Abso-fragging-lutely! I'm with you both on this; every new upgrade deserves a Crysis reinstall, just to see how your upgrade is faring Very Happy

when i upgraded to windows 7 and got my new 570, first thing i did was install crysis.. everything on high, with objects on very high... and i actually FINISHED it this time. never finished the game before, but this time i did! yay! dunno why i gave up last time... game was probably chugging along too much or i needed the space for another game, i dunno... but this time i finished! didnt hate it... actually found it kinda fun, and enjoyed the presentation of it... but now im feeling bummed because i always thought crysis 2 was a sequel not a fucking console reboot, so now im kinda sad that i dont get to continue nomads story Sad

yet one more reason crytek can fuck off i guess.

same was here with crysis, somehow when it cames out i didn't finish it and i left it to sit on my hd for few long weeks , i guess i got kind of over gaming(that feeling happens when there are few games you play and you are full of it...lost intrest in gaming for a while.)...it happen sometimes:)
and after a while a good friend of mine finished it and told me that if there is a game i will love it will be crysis, so why the hell i left it unfinished ? so...i strted from the point i left it and loved it more and more while progressing in the game.
it is a very good game and this thread makes me want to play it again:)

http://crymod.com/filebase.php?fileid=4429&lim=10

(Needs various config tweaks to take full advantage of the lighting improvements, by default the included config file has various cuts to say shadow resolution and draw distance from how I remember.)

http://crymod.com/filebase.php?cat=98

(Some of these are pretty well done but they're mostly just vistas with little gameplay.)

http://crymod.com/filebase.php?cat=21

(Levels mostly but built as campaigns/mods, some are pretty good but it was a while since I played Crysis so I'm not very up to date on it this one for example - http://crymod.com/filebase.php?fileid=4580&lim=20 )

http://crymod.com/filebase.php?cat=25

(Various SP levels of varying quality, some are great and others just look good but are pretty dull.)

EDIT: Some images I took from back then for comparison, nothing special and rather mixed.

(Even some with shader customization I think.)

Many would likely use this as a base, doesn't fully match the original textures and some additions are also helpful.

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=oblivionmods.detail&id=2363

I'd recommend Robert's fifth body mod version and whatever female body variation you prefer, tweaked face textures (Original are 256x256 so pretty ugly, Fallout 3 uses 1024x1024 for comparison but works in a simpler way for that system as to try and explain part of it.)

EDIT:
http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/2672/oblivion200806281054401fm4.jpg
(Old version screen I took a while ago from Robert's body model, textures have improved since then as have model compatibility.)

EDIT: Distant LOD tweaks can help as well, TesNexus should have a full category listing, while a lot to search it's usually worthwhile to fully customize the game how you want it.

EDIT: Water.

the question here is what system do you have ?
if i had a new dx11 card i would first test things that USE DX11 then DX10 and then... wait for good games that use DX10 or 11 Laughing

Asus M3A78-EM (mATX) with an X2 240
4GB ram, and now an HIS Radeon 6850.

Pretty crap by today's standards But a friend of mine who works at the shop where I get all my parts says they'll take the board, processor and ram in, and knock off some cost towards upgrading to a Phenom X6 with a newer AM3 board.

So what DX11 games can I try? lol

To be honest, I spent a long time last night scratching my head over what to play on the PC. I didn't realize there were so many. I figured Crysis, but I never thought it would run as well as it does, and I had bought BC2 during the steam sale. So other then those two I didn't think there was anything else worth trying As for STALKER, should I play through SoC and CS before CoP? That game gives me chills Sad

i read that they apparently did a bit better with warhead, indeed allowing the 'dx10 only' features to be used on winxp with dx9 (thus proving what we all knew... that crysis's dx10 features were nothing but a bullshit scam.. ahem.. and also making the game run better at higher settings...

yeah after finding myself enjoying crysis, i think ill be grabbing warhead - if for no other reason than to get another dose of psycho, seeing as i doubt we'll see him and nomad again since theyre not continuing their story Mad

Crysis is a gem in programming when you compare it to some of the other stuff mentioned so far. Mafia 2? GTA 4? The Gamebryo games? Metro? None of them look as good as Crysis, and despite the latter rendering at a lower FPS on most systems, it still looks better and plays smoother Razz

Well, Commander Keen seems like a very graphical game! You should try that! Very Happy

Anyway, you should try Crysis as someone said before. I test that game everytime when I've upgraded my Graphics Card.
