ok so what is the biggest internal 2,5" HD i can currently get and have it working properly with my ps3 ?
did some research; due to the fact 1TB 2,5" are 12,5mm thick which is to big for ps3.
scrap that ! found this; Samsung Spinpoint MT2, 1TB SATA-300, 8MB, 5400rpm; 1TB and still 9,5mm.
will this badboy work ?

the Samsung Spinpoint MT2 is actually 12.5mm high due to the three platters inside the casing

no bricking reports so far, so the wutangrza cfw is safe. stay away from waninkoko cfw though.

Just did it on my 160gb slim.
3.41 -> 3.55 OFW -> 3.55 kmeaw CFW worked fine.
BTW has anyone found a original gt5 EBOOT.BIN for the EUR version ?

hmm strange, so kmeaw cfw is different and not even based on the firmware of geohot/wutangrza ?
see this quote from psx-scene:
On Wutangrza's/Geohot Firmware you have to use pkg's signed with geohots tools.
On Kmeaw's Firmware you can install any pkg. Like the ones from 3.41 and ones signed with geohot tools.

kmeaw's isn't a CFW, it's just a patch. The CFW is Wutangrza's release which you then patch with the kmeaw release.

NOOOO. You use kmeaw's patch to patch OFFICIAL 3.55 FW. You might brick with what you said.

Wow, what a big update. Plenty of stuff has happened in the past 12 hours it would seem.
That said, until there is a more elegant way to play games off a big, external hdd - then I won't proceed. That, or a great exclusive comes out. I don't like the concept of having some games on my internal drive, and some on my external drive. I also don't like the idea of my internal drive running out as every game released from now on will contain files over 4gb I bet.
Still, the scene is moving in the right direction!

Anyone one know why i'm getting " currupt patch " when using the bspatch app with the following command :
bspatch PS3UPDAT.PUP PS3_CFW.PUP cfw_wutangrza
I double checked the file names and they check out - with the exception of ps3_cfw.pup which is supposed to be created by bspatch , am i rite ?

why are you going to flash the wutangrza his cfw.. with that one you have to flash 3 times.original then wutangrza AND then geohot his cfw. you better use Kmeaw his Cfw then you only have to flash twice original first and then Kmeaw his cfw.

a lot of people on psx scene don't realise that Kmeaw released 2 things a cfw that does exactly the same as Wutangzra and Geohot . AND he released an lv2 .pkg file that you have to run everytime in the xmb before running backup managers.
but thats only temporarly until they inplemt the lv2.pkg patch code it in the backup managers.

Well couple of pages back i think i read that i don't actually need to flash geohot's cfw after installing the patched .pup . Maybe i got them confused ?

There is minimal difference from psx scene main post:
PSX SCENE wrote: | kmeaw's CFW is different from FLUKES1 and Wutangrza and anyone elses.
Basically kmeaws CFW has peek/poke and allows you to bypass PKG checks, like how it used to work on 3.41 . Therefore you don't need to sign stuff like Geohots CFW.
Wutangrza's CFW is basically what flukes1 released it just has peek/poke enabled but you can't install PKG's.
Geohot's CFW can be installed over the top on Wutangrza's CFW and allows you to install special signed PKG's. |
So some sign checks are removed so its a bit better then wutangzra. but I am not so sure if its good for PSN(in long term PSN works for now). but still I am going to use this Kmeaw's firmware cause I prefer to skip geohot his cfw.

New lvl2 patcher released which lets you use Hermes instead of the PL3 payload. But from what I gather, PL3 is running everything fine anyway.

cool, but do you still need to load that app before starting bm when using his firmware ?
