why are you going to flash the wutangrza his cfw.. with that one you have to flash 3 times.original then wutangrza AND then geohot his cfw. you better use Kmeaw his Cfw then you only have to flash twice original first and then Kmeaw his cfw. |
Well couple of pages back i think i read that i don't actually need to flash geohot's cfw after installing the patched .pup . Maybe i got them confused ? |
you got them confused yes.. with Wutangzra you do need geohot his cfw. |
so right now it is ofw --> kmeaw cfw ?

yes and you still need to load that lv2 memory patcher app even on his firmware. but like I said thats only temporarily until they put that code in the backup managers.

I would like to know if "backups" only means those made by yourself from a backup manager? Or is it possible to find working releases online to put on the internal HDD? Does this new CFW change the way they need to be packaged?

I don't understand anymore.. I thought I did, but now I don't.
Some of you are saying kmeaw is an entire firmware...
BUT, right on the PSX SCENE FRONT PAGE, it says kmeaw is a PATCH for Wutangrza CFW... so which is it? Is it a complete CFW, or just a patch for another CFW?

Complete custom firmware. All firmwares released so far have been in the form of a patch that you use to modify the original Sony FW.
Edit: kmeaw also released LV2.pkg patch which is needed for both kmeaw's FW and Wutangrza's.

@JackQ
put the 3.55 OFW and the patch file in the bspatch folder
create a new txt document and type bspatch PS3UPDAT.PUP PS3CFW.PUP patchfile
rename it from .txt to .bat and double click, a dos screen comes up, runs the patcher and your left with a file called ps3cfw.pup which is roughly the same size as ps3updat.pup.

The custom firmwares released are patches that you apply to the offical firmware and than install it.

its a complete firmware but you have to patch it yourself.. you put original 3.55 in the same folder and then you have to execute some command at dos promt. and that will build the custom firmware. The reason they don't distribute the already build cfw firmware but as a patch is that its completely legal this way.

all you really need to understand is the readme of kmeaws patch:
Quote: | If you are on Wutangrza+geohot fw, you dont need to flash the new firmware, just install the package, and run it every time the ps3 boots before running apps that need PL3.
Otherwise, it is suggested that you upgrade to 3.55, Upgrade to this patched PUP, then install the lv2.pkg.
This is only until apps are updated to include this patch themselves, as then you wont need to run the patcher on every boot.
For Stock ps3's
1. update to official 3.55
2. bspatch PS3UPDAT.PUP PS3CFW.PUP patchfile
3. Delete PS3UPDAT.PUP
4. Rename PS3CFW.PUP to PS3UPDAT.PUP and that's it! You're ready to install
5. Install lvl2.pkg
6. Launch backups with manager |
you patch the official sony firmware with kmeaws patchfile to create CFW KMEAW 3.55, which is used to flash your stock PS3.

Yes, you can go online. No guarantees you won't eventually get banned though.

For the moment, yes you can. I logged into PSN to download the GT5 1.05 patch. Worked perfectly. But you can bet your ass that sony is gonna restrict PSN access in the near future.

Is the only thing needed for WUTGRANZA's release. If people are saying that they're wrong.
