I have been trying to keep up with this as much as possible. One question though, How many CFW releases have there been? And which has the most comparability with the most games? I want to load as many as I can using the PKG files and launching right from the XMB. Any answers would be great.

It confuses the fuck out of me too, to be honest.

I just followed this tutorial here and it worked. so if it aint broke don't fix it

http://www.ps3hax.net/2011/01/tutorial-how-to-play-backups-with-kmeaw-cfwpsn-without-risk-of-brick/#axzz1BZzLZTyN

Read it to the letter especially the write up on the diff CFW, I wouldnt touch the below but some have installed it ok

Also make your own CFW with that tutorial, I would not d/l a 'pre-made' one you never know wtf it is

It's down for me but having said that, it's always incredibly slow.

Last I heard, on x360iso was that ps3iso was going to get a server upgrade. No idea if this is the cause of the outage though

I'm stumped. I have a 1TB external HD formatted to Fat32 using the Verbnatim FAT32 Tool. However, when this is plugged in to my PC, my PC says it needs to be formatted to be used. How are people transferring games from their PC to the external HD? Or are they not and the external HD is only used for shifting files between the internal HD on the PS3?

Just click cancel on the stupid windows size restriction pop up and copy games across as normal. You will still be able to access it (well on Win 7 you can, long time since i had xp)

Thanks - for some reason at my first attempt it wouldn't do anything but tell me I needed to format the drive. This morning I was able to open up and paste files over.

That's a good guide, it's what I used, but it's missing a couple things (i.e. the structure of where you need to place the PS3UPDAT.PUP once you've run the patch (X:PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP - where X is your USB drive letter) and step 3 should just tell people to go back to the CFW file they downloaded in Step 1 and transfer the file "lv2.pkg" to the root of the USB drive, plug the drive in to the PS3 and run it from the "Install Package Files" from the XMB. (Even though I gather that the LV2 stuff is integrated to most BMs now).

Might seem like obvious stuff, but if you're going to write a great tutorial, it's important not to overlook anything.

Is there some special rename command when using the FileZilla Client to Multiman server?

Trying to rename GT 5 ATAX Release to the proper BLES01014 (not sure actual release name atm)

However the server doesn't recognize the rename command. Anybody ran into this before? It doesn't seem like permissions. It just says unrecognized command.

Just a guess, but it might be because multiman is accessing it therefore the permissions are set to locked.

I'd guess you could use the other ps3 ftp program (is it blackbox or somethign) and I'd guess it'd allow for renaming

I thought it may be something like that. Also, thanks for the suggestion. I was almost thinking I would just delete it and transfer it again. It doesn't seem like the release is going to work anyways. I am hoping changing the folder name somehow helps, but i am doubtful.

Also, does fixpermissions work if you run it prior to running lv2 patch?

Where is your ATAX release currently? There are programs such as PS3Win which will look for games and rename the directory for you.

Also, I could be wrong on this, but if you have 3.55 and that ATAX release, you need to replace the eboot file and the param.sfo file with the originals, but maybe you already knew that.

That's by far the best tutorial around and helped me set my things up a lot.

Noobs should follow this to the letter and they shouldn't have any issues. And then they shall graduate to "Advanced Noob" like me. Very Happy

Hey guys, anyone know if there is a way I can change what directory that GAIA looks for my games in? On my internal, they're all in a GAME folder so I need it to find them there (so I don't have to move them all).

The latest Gaia release downloads come with 3 files GAMEZ, GAMES and another that I can't remember. Use the .pkg that has GAMES in the title. Download the latest gaia and you will see what I mean.

.. or as already said, rename the folder.

+1

i've just been reading this thread http://psx-scene.com/forums/f187/%5Bupdated-100%25-no-freezing%5D-3-55-cfw-games-read-hermes-type-payload-78306/

I wondered why I haven't had any crashes with the new Multiman. MM really is the best backup manager at the moment.

Edit: DON'T download from the above thread, multiman is HERE

Uugggh, another problem. Just tried to install a new internal HD. Backed up data to external Fat32 drive. Turned off console, swapped drives. Powered up to:

Cannot start. The correct hard disk was not found.

Can't even get in to the system recovery menu.

EDIT: LOL, didn't have the drive caddy pushed all the way in Rolling Eyes

Yeah, once I asked that question, I saw there was a new MM at 1.14, so I just updated and BANGO, it's all good now. Love that BM, definitely the best out there.

The only problem I have had with Mulitman was it not deleting (unistalling) properly and leaving corrupt data on the HD, only way I found around this was to FTP into the internal HD and del the corrupt dir.

That didn't work for me. Had corrupt data from trying to delete MM a few times. Trying to fix the file structure in recovery didn't work either, I had to do a full format, twice.

The new MM uses a different payload, and it is meant to be very similar to hermes which has been tried and tested to be a lot more stable.

What I did mate was to allow all file permissions on the corrupt dir, then I renamed it to just del, then i copied all the files from one of the other dirs i had installed (gaia or whatever its called) I did this as it was just an empty dir wiith I guess a hidden file or with a corrupt file header. Then I booted up the PS3 again and attempted to del the corrupt data again, still got an error but a slightly different one (sorry can't remember) turned the system off completely/back on and the little shit had gone.

Oke guys please help me out with this. I asked this before but couldn't get a proper answer. I have a 160 gb ps3. Ps3 tooks 11 gb for itself. I have counted how many gb's I used: I have 10 games on my hdd+ gamedata+ savegames = 101 gb. So I should have 38 gb free space. But the systeminformation says I have 10 gb left. How is this possible? Where did my 28 gb of space go? Someone please help me with this.
