@JB: I don't think so. The size of the discs on the PC is also bigger.

Quote: | John O'Rorke: The main limiting factor that we run into on the consoles where the PC can really shine is in the memory available as well as the space on the DVD. Because of this, the PC is able to have higher resolution textures than the other platforms resulting in a crisper and more detailed environment. |

Quote: | With both UT2K7 and Gears of War we are offering our textures at extremely high resolution like 2000x2000 resolution which is a higher resolution than you can effectively use on a console because of the limited memory, but it is something that certainly will be appropriate for PC's with virtualized texturing in the future, so we will whole-heartedly be supporting DX10. |

Wasn't Metro 2033 developed for the PC and then ported to the assbox?
Oh and:

Compared to the console versions, of course.
Too bad that the original game had much better lighting overall.

Developed ON PC.. Yes.. All games are.
Developed FOR PC.. No.. Because it wouldn't run on consoles
http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,706182/Exclusive-tech-interview-on-Metro-2033/News/
Quote: | PCGH: You announced that you game will be developed for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 and that the PC version will come with DX11 and GPU Physx support. So we assume that the Game won't be developed as a pure cross platform title. Is that right? Do you develop the game for each platform separately?
Oles Shishkovstov: Why? I don't understand your logic. The same code executes on all of the mentioned platforms. They use the same content. It's the engine architecture which bends towards the platform it is running on. Of course there are minor tweaks and optimizations all over the place, but we develop only one game.
Actually designers work on their PCs and don't bother with other platforms, they don't even have a single switch that is platform specific - it all just works and works extremely well. We are quite proud of that. |

That is true. Before console total domination my graphic card would get outdated on the way home from pc-shop.
I don't mind if game is console port as long as they port it well. IMO DS1 was extremely well optimized, controls and graphics. I hope "they did it agian".

No, you never had to update 2 times/year in the past. Maybe 1/year, if you didn't want to lower the graphics.
Also it's up to each dev/publisher to decide how demanding their game will be. There's no reason to believe that if consoles didn't become popular the vast majority of publishers would be making hardware demanding games.. yes that was a trend in the past but who knows if it would continue forever, when it's been proven that some of the best selling PC games have low system requirements (HL2, CS:S, Blizzard's games..)

Also, don't forget that if you want a decent computer you'll have to fork out ~2000€.

Nice troll but no. Once you initially buy a computer (even for $800 one year) if you want or are forced to upgrade, 3-4 years have gone by and you generally will only need to replace 3-4 components, equalling about the price of a console is plus games and accessories.
