just sign into psn and update games as normal? |
You don't even need to be signed in, just an internet connection and you're prompted for updates anyway (which work fine).

thanks! this is probably a better way to minimize the risk of ban from psn

Agreed but some games don't seem to work with "external updates". I know fight night round 4 didn't but EA MMA did.
Dunno , perhaps it's on a game to game basis ?

It is reserved for system files for the PS3 console.

Quote: | The unformatted capacity of any hard drive will always be greater than the formatted capacity. In the hard drive industry the partitioned size will be less than the printed capacity on the label. This is consistent whether it is Western Digital, Seagate, Samsung, etc. A 160GB hard drive will have a formatted capacity of approximately 149-150GB. This is due to the fact that computers calculate capacity based on 1024 bytes/kilobyte, while the hard drive calculation is based on 1000 instead of 1024. Hard drive manufacturers define a megabyte as 1,000,000 bytes and a gigabyte as 1,000,000,000 bytes, which is a decimal (base 10) measurement. Computers define a megabyte as 1,048,576 bytes and a gigabyte as 1,073,741,824 bytes. These are binary (base 2) measurements. This is why the two different industries will report different capacities for the same drive. The number of bytes is the same, but a different number of bytes is used to make a megabyte and a gigabyte. |

I read the PS3 takes about 10-12% of the HDD, so the bigger the drive, the more wasted space.
And @ DevilItachi. I don't think anyone will have anymore advice to give. You will have to look through the hardrive yourself and see where the space has gone.

I am not having any issues at the moment, but do have a couple random questions that have occurred to me since starting this process. Would be great to get some answers just to plug some holes in the knowledge I've gained:
1) Multiman comes with an app called Last Game - what does it do?
2) kmeaw 3.55 puts a folder called */app_home/PS3_GAME on my XMB but I have no idea what it's supposed to do, and when I click it I get an error anyway. What's the purpose of this or reason for it being on the XMB?
EDIT: After finding this thread it would appear that this folder is just a side effect that has no bearing on things and it doesn't open for anyone.
3) Seeing as some games still don't work, won't it just be a matter of time before Sony copy the structure of these games for all future releases?

1. i believe it is to load the last game you played (without the need to boot multiman again)
2. having the same "issue" sometimes that map show the last game i played and can try to boot from it. (but fails)
3. i thought the same, we will see what sony does, but whatever they do we have the keys.

i wouldnt touch wanin's next FW with a bargepole, kmaew is almost faultless now, espessially when combined with the new MM and it proved to be brick-less right from the get go.
lets just hope him and wutangrza keep it up and bring on 3.56 kmaew FW but untill then most of us have gotten what we wanted
1. a quick stint on PSN to realise its still pretty boring
2. dongle-less jailbreaking

It’s a relatively quiet day for us on the scene, but here is something to cheer with a little info on the new version of Waninkoko CFW V2. The previous version of Waninkoko had created an uproar in the community, by the hundreds of PS3 bricks following the installation of the CFW. But do not worry about the V2 because it would have found the reasons for the bricks.
Here are some details on the CFW waninkoko V2:
- A new payload for his CFW, based on the payload Hermes + on some functions of the payload PL3
-However, the payload, according Waninkoko not work on CFW Kmeaw.
The CFW-patches will be provided. pkg for easy installation
The CFW-use function Peek / Poke with some additional tools like the tools and CFW kmeaw Flukes1
Many people (who have passed the test of the brick) praised the first version, with the launch of backups without too many problems. Hopefully the new version of CFW waninkoko be a more stable version.

not to flame waninkoko whatsoever, but i see no reason why to change cFW. how is his new cFW better then kmaew ? what does it add ? what does it improve ? |
It turns your PS3 into a super cool doorstop!!
none of the other's do that!

Found this little workaround on another site to still get on PSN/bypass the update check. Jut did it myself and it works fine
Settings > Network Settings > Internet Connection Settings > OK > Custom > wired > Manual Settings > Auto > Auto > Do Not Set > Manual > Primary DNS = 67.202.81.137 Secondary DNS = 67.202.81.137 > Automatic > Do Not Use > Enable > X

thats what im saying, not to diss waninkoko though. we got what we want with the current cfw. so what would be the point to switch to waninkoko, why did he make this release ?
and please stop with the childish flaming. you are responsible for your own actions. and any cfw has brick risk !

Sorry to break your happiness, but "they" didn't find private keys, and probably won't ANYMORE. We can only get public keys. Sony fixed ECDSA (failoverflow breakthough), you know the thing about the random key not being random after all. Even with metldr, we can't get it.
But, don't desperate, we can still remove the check to that key altogether since we can decrypt lv2lodr. Will be very hard, but it's not the end. As said previously, we can decrypt all firmwares forever, so Sony is doing just what they did on PSP : making new firmwares every time they get hacked, adding new checks, so it slows us down...
It's like UBISoft DRM on PC, it didn't stop piracy did it ?
