Reposting it for a good laugh: http://www.penny-arcade.com/2011/1/24/
4 aim assisting techniques in a console shooter:
1) View acceleration allows that time cost to not be linear from distance the thumb stick is moved.
2) View friction slows down the player’s turn speed when an enemy passes in front of their cursor.
3) View adhesion, which will cause the player’s cursor to adhere to enemies passing in front of the player.
4) Aim attraction is the last console helping mechanism. This is a system that takes a shot you make, sees if it’s going to be close to a target, and adjust that shot ever so slightly so that it hits.
And the irony is that despite the fact they play like shit on consoles, FPS are the some of the most (if not THE most) successful console games of this gen.

How do shooters play themselves for you on consoles? I never experienced this phenomenon.

PC requirements announced: http://www.facebook.com/crysis.de
• 2 GB RAM
...• HDD: 9 GB
• DVD ROM: 8x
• GPU: NVidia 8800GT 512Mb RAM, ATI 3850HD 512Mb RAM, oder besser
• Audio: DirectX 9.0c-fähig
• Keyboard, Mouse o. Microsoft Xbox360 Controller für Windows |
Let's compare them with the recommended from Crysis 1:
Quote: | OS - Windows XP / Vista
Processor - Intel Core 2 DUO @ 2.2GHz or AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+
Memory - 2.0 GB RAM
GPU - NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS/640 or similar |
I'd say they're about the same (although please remember that the recommended for Crysis 1, unlike other games, weren't enough to max out the game)
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."

Could be.. Although obviously a 8800GT is tons better than PS360's GPU it depends on how the devs define what is "minimum".
For example Metro 2033 supposedly required a 8800 card as a minimum ( http://news.bigdownload.com/2010/02/25/metro-2033-pc-system-requirements-announced/ ) but my 8800GT gave me much better performance than on 360, at much higher settings (dx10, High quality, 16x AF, etc).

Yeah, I forgot that the recommended will mention dx11 cards, nvidia's 3D Vision tech etc. We'll know it's them, when we see them

Also comparisons between Crysis 2 MP console configs and Crysis Wars config: http://www.incrysis.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=32336&p=2
Quote: | It seems that the general console .cfg uses medium as a base line, with many commands set to low, or even sub-low. However, other cfgs are set to high or higher, making an interesting balance. From the looks of it, the consoles seem to be struggling with memory, as many of the RAM-heavy commands are set extremely low. On the other hand, things related to lighting and geom seem to be set high.
It looks like CE3 is much more efficient with geom that CE2, which will allow for some interesting stuff. |
How a map looks with medium settings:
How a map looks with console settings:
The big difference is that PC medium for Crysis has HDR set to off, while consoles have HDR set to on and meanwhile their framerate is 10-14% faster than medium.
(Of course these comparisons aren't that useful since they are done on CE2 instead of CE3.)

Shit, read it wrong! Sorry Skipped the first words of the second sentence and they somehow merged in my head to "reqiurements for online-play" wheras it states "...requirements: * you'll require an internet connection for online-play"

This is the sole reason why the Crysis Wars' formula (big open maps + vehicles) has been altered into the usual CoD clone with 40m^2 maps and an incredible amount of stunning dark corridors/low-poly-console-ready inside ambiences:

So they pushed bloooooooom to blinding state (MaximumBloom™ ) on the console, call it HDR and the idiots will fall for it like retards.
<Michael Pachter>Crap your pants PC gamers, Crysis now looks much better on the PS3 than on PC; look how amazing this bloom HDR is!
And because Crysis 2 is now a Derp of Call clone, it is so much a lot a better than that open world have to think a little bit before hurr durr I forgot what I was talking about </Michael Pachter>
Crysis didn't have anywhere the amount of bloom these "simulations" have; HDR is not about bloom (for people who don't know), rather the latter is a consequence of light bleeding simulation achieved when tone mapping.
But when was the last time we saw a real HDR implementation? Fucking console and the retards that drool on bloom, now devs can call bloom "HDR" and make idiots drool.

Same here, that's why I'm whining so much about the "new" MP mode
I absolutely enjoyed Crysis MP until it was supported/well populated/not infested by cheaters, it provided many different approaches to the objectives, with the nice addition of vehicles and the economic system to acquire new weapons.

It does not really look exactly like that. The guy used CryEngine 3 settings with CryEngine 2. It is very likely that the new engine handles the same values a bit differently, resulting in a more natural image.

If it's just the settings from the leaked alpha (beta?) CryEngine 3 SDK it wouldn't really match very well aside from a general overview, shader data might work but the engine itself likely wouldn't display it correctly even so if it was compatible at all.

Man I hope there are no stupid edges like the grass mound in the pictures above.
That's so 1990!
Also, I thought Cry2 was set in cities - not back in a jungle?

It's in urban conditions. What's been done above, however - the shot comparison, I mean - is taking a Crysis Wars MP map and applying the console settings used in Crysis 2 Xbox MP demo. Thus the jungle setting.
