Great generalisation. I've read previews done by journalists who are "normal gamers" (whatever that may mean), those were positive.

Only thing I mean by normal gamers is people who are not journalists or in any way work in the industry, but thanks for looking for something that isn't there.

That update can be interpreted in two ways; either they're very good at spotting bugs or the game is bugged as hell Laughing

Well the game isn't gold yet (or is it?), so it is good that they are fixing bugs now. Smile

Complex software is amazingly bugged at some point of development.

Though most some of those bugs are minor, and not breaking core functionalities.

I hit the hype peak on this one a few months back, lately I've returned to my default "cautiously optimistic" mode.

What's the importance of an embargo on game info? Can someone explain? Is it because they want a big 'opening' at the same time (aka PR related)?

I honestly don't know either. The journalists have played the game weeks prior... yet they were only allowed to talk about the tutorial mission before a set date? Makes no sense to me - unless the 24th has some other significance, like the announcement of Gold-status and a proper release date.. or even, hope-against-hope, a demo release.

Well if you release information all at once I can see the issue of gaining hype over the development of the game. It's marketing is all. Letting info out over a longer period of time is more effective in gaining interest than one huge lump early (or later) on.

The journalists will write about the 3 hour demo they played but apparently 2 days ago they played a new one that lasted 6 hours: http://www.nfohump.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1422176#1422176

So my guess is we will have to wait for a second update to learn about their experience with the 6 hour one.

Why do they show it in steps? Aside from marketing reasons it could be because the game is still very buggy and they're using the time in-between to polish it to a state that is acceptable to be shown to the public.

For example if my game was like the Crysis 2 leak, I wouldn't want journalists to play it just yet.

Well, that sucks. Smile

Would love some killswitches. That would be more "Deus Ex"-esque. ^.^ Ofc, the results are the same, but it's all about not getting messy and it's more rewarding in terms of RPG game side.

Spoiler for Deus Ex (1)... erm, non-initiates:

To not favor one gaming magazine over another and give the scoop to one particular magazine, ie. allow for the gaming journalism industry to have time to do their research, tests and articles? Just a guess. There's most certainly marketing value in it as well. Having every gaming magazine and site publishing their articles at the same time is better PR than any expensive ad-campaign could ever hope for.

If this ends in a huge anticlimax, we all know where to find Sabin. This and Witcher are the only games I'm hyped about. If the previews are good, I might break my record and pre-order two, yes TWO, games this year.

Is Invisible War worth playing? I heard that it's worse than the first one, but I don't know in what terms.
