No. Noob Saibot is a reverse of the names of the two creators; Boon and Tobias. He was a hidden boss in MK2 and eventually became a real playable character. The lore is that he's the rebirth of Sub Zero after he was killed by Scorpion during the first MK tournament.

No. Smoke and Noob Saibot were both introduced in MK2 as hidden, non-playable, bosses. Both were palette-swaps of Scorpion, though the different versions of MK2 had Noob fighting differently.

Though actually, to be completely fair, you can hack the game on the SNES using a GameGenie/Action Replay and play as a broken version -- much the same way you could hack the original SF2 on the SNES to play as the bosses.
FUCKING SONY. I just bought Mortal Kombat II on PSN... but the damned thing doesn't even work! Downloaded fine, installed fine, load it up and get several publisher logos -- then it crashes on the "2007 Midway Amusements" copyright page and freezes my fucking PS3. *sighs* I've tried six times now, each time it freezes on the exact same screen. None of my other games ever freeze the machine
I'm going to uninstall and redownload it. Hope it works

@sabin1981 : i read about the same freeze on some other forum with MK2, so i guess you arent the only one. Funny thing (or not..), noticed that GTI Rally Cote d'azur, another psn games, doesnt work on 3.55 properly (you can press Start to access the menu) while it worked fine on 3.41.
Seems that Sony modify their firmwares so much that it makes some few oldies freeze/crash on 3.55
All my other PSN games work (including GTI Rally) on 3.55-KMEAW, it's just MK2 that doesn't Right after I posted my last post, I checked on PSX-Scene and it seems I'm not the only one who can't load MK2 on 3.55-K. It works fine (purchased, of course) on 3.41 and stock 3.55, just not 3.55-K
Really GTI RAlly works for you ?!? You bought the game or you are using the cracked version ? When it says "Press Start", I press start but it does nothing... The game isnt freezing cuz I can see the rolling demo playing in background, but cant access the menu with the Start button at all
This only started to happen when I updated to 3.55, would be interested to see if there is a fix or if you did smthg special cuz I miss this game
I was using the cracked version, but I only loaded it to test it was working on 3.55 ... I didn't actually PLAY it, so I guess it might not work past the title screen :\ I'll reinstall it later and test it, but I had to sign the EBOOT myself since the original one was a debug for 3.41.
yeah same here... so I guess it will freeze for you too, let me know Anyway, im pretty sure the purchased version fails the same since it's using the same 1.01 patch, so debug or not, it shouldnt matter. I'm pretty surprised the 3.55 CFW would make these games fail, since there is minimal patching as long as you dont run a backup manager...
If you are brave enough, you should try to reverse to 3.55 OFW using the Update thing with 3.55 OFW PUP (it won't format), and try MK2, and while you are at it, try GTI Rally car (since it will still be signed, it will boot).
Then if it works, try to update back to 3.55 CFW, I guess... Too lazy to do that but I would definitely be pissed off if a game i bought wouldnt work !
Now, as for when you’ll get your hands on this tasty morsel of Mortal Kombat – the answer is “it depends”. The demo will be available exclusively for PlayStation Plus members globally on March 8th and then open to all PSN users worldwide on March 15th. The demo will later be available for download on XBLA, although no specific date was given.
