What i mean is you dont need 1GB video memory to play with High Textures Pack. |
yeah works fine here too . maybe Dx11 will struggle with the high Res pack cuz of the other effects that require as said 1 gig of vid ram so DX10 ten can use them smoothly without the other stuff |
It still runs great on dx11(if avable) option but like AvP did it freezes after 2-3 minutes gameplay.

I own them, if you want the installer just send a PM or some such but it won't be playable unless modified, links are customized for each individual / account so I can't use those directly.

Just found, downloaded and installed The Exiled Prince, it shows as installed in Downloadble Content in my menu. Where is this guy supposed to be ingame so I can check if it really works?

Far from Origins walk in the park nightmare, but some fights are ridiculous. Fights at nights there's like eight mobs, then eight more pop-up, surviving each encounter is quite the strain. |
I roll without a healer, and only lose 1 party member at most in fights. Just dodge the attacks manually. You see the guy swinging? Order your guys back a few feet, then go in again. Sure, takes time, but it's safe.

the game is... boring? you're just running around doing some random unrelated quests, the game has no momentum. there's no goals, and little character building, i dont feel attached to any of my family members for example.

I enjoy the new setting and story set up, I've no idea how it will continue but it's very promising so far, for being only restricted to Kirkwall and the surroundings most of the time there's quite a bit of content as well, done about thirty quests so far of various categories from finding and returning items to helping companions and aiding various NPC's, also been trying to raise the needed funds to continue the storyline but I'll do that last after I've finished the rest of the exploration of this first act of the game.
AI is very active as well quick to use potions and abilities on the higher difficulty levels but they also gain a huge amount of health and boosts so you'll get knocked around often and put in rather difficult situations due to the sheer number of fighters there might be around you and more usually arrive to reinforce before the battle is over with the first group.
It is a bit more darker and personal, good writing and story as I mentioned though you can also be a bit more serious or humorous (Or friendly.) but overall the dialogue choices are simplified as is other systems.
For example inventory is streamlined heavily with no item descriptions aside from stats and you can't ever unequip the default gear you have and of course companions use their own main armor which will have to be improved via other means than giving them new gear.
There is a lot of items as well but the star system to rank them and materials conflict a bit so even high-grade materials might lose out if the star-rating on the item is exceptionally high, even so as that one handers surpass two handers.
You still have attributes but it's further refined down to very basic setups and then you choose a skill path to pursue and once possible maybe even a specialization such as the familiar templar or reaver paths.
City feels more active and NPC's wander around and comment, NPC's say more stuff in general but the detail is a bit lacking as most of these filler AI groups are pretty low detailed.
Visuals on the whole are a bit behind but I think it looks fine, DX11 would help though due to the enhancements that full render path offers.
Music and sound in general works fine though when low on health this whining noise can be heard which might be a bit disturbing or annoying, various help text also appear from time to time but can be toggled in the options menu.
Locations seem a bit limited at first but more opens up as you progress and differ between day and night time as well which can be switched seamlessly between on the main map screen to pursue certain quests.
Some branching and continuity is also apparent from what you did in DA1 to Witch Hunt if a character was imported but it's often rather minor, nice detail though when you encounter familiar NPC's and hear about how things turned out.
(You get a choice rather early as well which faction to work for, this doesn't seem to have affected much so far but it might have repercussions later.)

Pardon? Are you talking about pure damage? I mean, aren't there any moves only usable with a 2Hander (Crowd Control stuff etc)?

I play on 4850 with HR texture pack enabled. Of course, on high with 4xAA (very high not possible).
I do have just 512MB of VRAM and it plays flawlessly, but I use just 1280x1024 resolution. I bet it wouldn't play well of 1920x1080, for example.

Okay, let me be fair with this game:
So far, I like:
- the story and characters - they are more interesting than in DA1, funny, because as of late, BioWare stories were copies of each other, and characters were utter clichés. This is the games greatest strength.
- I also like the locations - sure, there's copy pasting going about, but overall, I find it varied enough.
- I like the idea of every party member having a "home".
So far, I dislike:
- Sandal - he's gone full retard now from the funny yet somehow scary Sandal of DA1
- Combat - very repetitive, other than having to pound on enemies for longer, the game is not requiring much thinking even on nightmare - you don't even need to time your abilities, just spam them as they're cooled, and you are winning.
- Simplified talent tree - not much to add here, simply loads less choices than in DA1. Not that enough ways to build a character, so the replay value isn't high for me, as far as combat goes.
- Not enough character development, even though the characters are interesting.
Overall score? 6/10. Just as a reference for modern RPGs, DAO was imho an 8, ME1 was also a 6, ME2 for me was a 3-4 and NWN2 MotB was a 9.

Well, the highres textures work np with a 512MB R4850, which looks a little better than the demo did but still worse than games released years ago. Why even bother making good gfx when tesselation will magically do that for you, amirite? Since I'm stuck with DX9 on this rig (win xp) the game only allows medium settings, which is ridiculous. Why do I need DX11 to enable such advanced features like AF? Luckily it seems I can enable AF in the ini and it sticks ingame, but none of the other settings do.

Quote: | BioWare co-founder Dr. Ray Muzyka's said how "proud" the studio is of latest title, Dragon Age 2, which releases in Europe this Friday.
Speaking ahead of this afternoon's review embargo, Muzyka claimed the developer's raised the bar for both the franchise and the RPG genre.
"I am very proud of the bold, ambitious direction our team took with Dragon Age II, which I think is some of the best work yet from BioWare," he said.
"The Dragon Age team built on their success with Dragon Age: Origins and also focused on innovation for our players, delivering better combat, creating an incredible new art style and introducing a dynamic storytelling technique to really raise the bar for both the franchise and the genre." |
