I like it, I'd rate DA1 and this both with an 8.5/10. It's too early now to give a rating though, i've only played 2-3 hours.
The graphics are fine. While the areas might not be very imaginative, the character and equipment models are very good. Anyone saying DA1 looked better must have an eye problem.
The combat is faster, different. I think it's challenging enough on Hard, the first Ogre sure as hell wasn't easy for me. What exactly was tactical about Dragon Age? The first game had relatively simple combat too. Sure I'd like to have seen a much improved and deeper system since the system in the first was a good basis, but they didn't do it. Well tough luck. The combat being faster and smoother makes it seem more like an action RPG, but it isn't any less 'deep' than the original.
The story itself is fine up untill now, though I haven't seen much of it yet. The narration style and voice is very good, that guy should've been the main voice actor imo.
The only in your face oversimplification is the inventory, though I must admit that I do not remember the first game for its great loot system. Looting was shit in DA:O, it's still shit here.

So very premature conclusion: it's different but I wouldn't call it worse. There are still enough skills, the gfx definitely got an overhaul (runs fine with an HD4850 at 1440x900, HR tex, 2xAA, 16xAF) and story seems interesting. It is definitely consolified to a degree (big icons, blatant console UI and inventory etc.) but it's as enjoyable as teh original DA for me. I must admit though the original wouldn't get into my top5 RPGs ever list, so my expectations might have been low compared to others here.

Oh god this game is terrible. So you have this difficulty in game ok ? Well game was sometimes easy on Hard but was fairly easy on Normal, however i dont have nerves for this difficulty such as 9999999 mobs spawning and casting stupid shit on you that one hits whole your party and when exposed to attack teleports instantly on other side of room and casting thru wall. God dammit im glad i did not buy this shat game.

Wow, they really blew it. Those reviews, considering the unwritten rule to not give a game less than 7, are really bad. Especially for a Bioware game.

Guess the "push button, something awesome happens" approach didn't work. Who would've guessed.

Best starter mission for me was "Birthright." The enemies were easy enough on nightmare to level up. Now it is a lot easier to do any other early missions. I personally think DA2 Nightmare is harder than Origins only because some enemies are just freakishly strong and one-shot everyone even with typical RPG tactics.

Just finished it on the PS3, it has probably one of the worst endings bioware has ever managed to make in an RPG... god damnit, what a disapointment.

Indeed. Also gotta love how they chug potions Laughing

Thinking about going down to Hard as I'm having to do a fair bit of cheesing to get through some encounters.

It seems so. However Medal of Honor has a metacritic score around 75%, which is pretty bad for an AAA title, and it still sold like hot cakes.

TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."

BTW, can you still make a mage that specializes in both magic and swords like the Battle Mage from Awakening?

Thats actually spot on. They improved the graphics somewhat and all that comes with it, but the core game is stripped down too much. I also miss the artsy UI from DA1. Just helps show how they rushed this out. And..the couple of hours I played the game just feels like same old. Meh..

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2010/12/12/bethesda-says-skyrim-engine-all-new/

"Bethesda Softworks community manager Nick Breckon said: “We can now confirm that the TES V: Skyrim engine is all-new. And it looks fantastic.” I asked him what “new” means in this case, and whether it was simply a new version of the Gamebryo engine that powered Oblivion and the recent Fallout games. He responded: “It’s a new graphics/gameplay engine built internally. We’ll have more details down the road.”"

Shot yourself in the foot there. Razz
