The thing is, you're clearly not mentally deficient, which means it's a failure by the developers to make the story coherent and accessible enough for the casual player who focuses on gameplay instead.
I've completed the first (which admittedly had a fairly simple story) and got about half way through the second before moving on to the third. I'll admit that at this point the recap the game gives you at the beginning is seriously lacking. What I know is...
Spoiler: | There was an ancient society of hyper-advanced human like beings living (or at least visiting) earth at some point in the distance past. There was some sort of belligerence and at least two individuals (Adam & Eve, possibly more) rebelled, in the process they stole certain technological artefacts and distributed them across the planet. The majority of the civilisation left the planet or died in a great cataclysm, taking with them virtually all of the evidence that they ever existed. Those that were left, influenced the evolution of humanity, and created 'vaults' in which they left messages for our future selves. These vaults contained technology which can read the genome of a individual in real time, allowing it to recognise who is present. These messages warn of a future cataclysm that will wipe out mankind unless it is averted through the use of technology that has been purposely left behind.
Over the course of human history different individuals have been in possession of the artefacts, which allowed them to attain great power due to the various effects of this advanced technology. The artefacts have been pivotal in the development of human civilisation.
Two different forces, The Assassins and The Templars, are aware of the existence of these artefacts, and have been fighting over possession of them for centuries in some form or another. The Templars developed technology that allowed them to explore the genetic memory of an individual, through which they sought information about the current location of the artefacts. You are one of these individuals. |
Ok so that's my highly simplified interpretation of the story, but I got bored half way through typing it so missed out quite a few details. I also have hardly played any of the third game so I could be completely wrong in some respects.
How does my interpretation correlate with yours killabyte? To me it's actually quite a cliche story, the whole 'ancient civilisation leaves behind technology/dire warning for mankind to discover' has been done to death. Maybe playing through the third game will introduce some original elements. Without spoiling it killabyte, could you tell me if there are any unpredictable twists etc.

I've gathered about the same as you from the story so far. There's one twist at the very end but from what I could tell (so far) it's not anything that makes you go AH-HA! The rest of it I literally could not make out what was being said. When whatever it is speaks, there's so much echo and reverb that I was only catching a word here and there. I heard something about a girl but I won't go into anymore detail than that to avoid any possible spoilers. I don't know if they meant for it to be that way, or if I have a shitty 5.1 system or something. Probably wouldn't have been so bad but there were other noises being generated and it was all kind of blending together.
Basically, after finishing this one, I don't know much more about the overall story than I did before I started. The truth puzzles add up to... something. Don't really have to worry about spoiling that one for you because I don't think anyone understood what the hell happens when you solve them. I might be wrong, or slow, but to me it's like they are creating all these twists but not tying any of them together. I feel like if they wait too long to put it together that it will be kinda ruined.

I know what you mean, I put on the subtitles to try and compensate for that but it subtitles absolutely all speech, even random chatter from generic NPC's.

Ok so I watched the ending again on youtube and listened closely. Since I could hear what they were saying this time I think I see where they are going with this. I would discuss it but I don't want to spoil it for you. If you don't play it at least watch the ending and see what you get out of it.

I don't think I'll ever finish this game... I am way too distracted..
All I do all day is run around looking for guards and summoning my assassins on them! It's all I do! It never gets old!
I've been running that Facebook game and I keep sending tons of EXP back to my assassins, they are pretty nice by now.

Never noticed that.

It's safe and required to play but unless you're running iXtreme LT+ then you won't be able to play the game, since the new dash has AP25 checks that are present in AC-Brotherhood. AP25 is only functional on older Hitachi drives or any other flashed with LT+

If you need activate.iso, then you don't have LT+ or even the original LT. If you install the new dashboard you will be subject to AP25 checks and AC:B won't work ... neither will a few other games, mostly recent ones (except MvC3) but also a few older ones too such as Black Ops.

You could try this first. No fw update, new dash and working with all AP2.5 games released up until now. Might not last long, as it's an exploit and they could fix it, but if you really wanna play AC:B without fw update to LT+, it's the easiest and cheapest way.

New Assassin's Creed Reveal in May
Ubisoft confirms new retail game for 2011.
WTF ? One more Assassin's Creed ? !!
The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

Actually AC3 is in the making for quite some time. It was Brotherhood that was made quickly after success of AC2.
