Released, keys are available so the game can be unpacked properly, if you have a valid serial key (Keystore or similar.) I can walk you trough unpacking and running the game but there really isn't much to it, just extract via a utility such as Phoenix or SIDPacker into any folder under Steam\SteamApps\Common\ (Such as \Shogun2)

Create a steam_appid.txt file in the folder with the exe file and in there enter 34330

Have Steam running with the game registered and then start the game exe directly, Steam will be partially bypassed and since you own the game it'll start and function as intended.
(Of course a day-0 update is highly likely so expect a last minute patch tomorrow*.)

* = I own the retail CE version (Ninjas, fuck yeah! lol wut ) so I don't have it yet and can't test this myself nor upload any modified data should it exist, should ship Wednesday at the latest. Razz

Unless it's like with Dawn of War 2 Retribution and that old saying about Steam being impenetrable or what it was is slowly coming true... Very Happy
(Kidding of course but still there hasn't been a scene release of that game though it leaked early via alternative sources, supposedly a Chinese homemade/P2P crack is available for the base game and patches though so it's not like it's impossible to bypass or anything or so it would seem.)

EDIT: Unpacked, just a bit over 15 GB, had some issues initially with how Phoenix did the unpacking but the older more manual SisInstall program handled it properly.

what convinced you to buy it jb ? The multiplayer seemed pretty moot to me, all just random battles unrelated and no real story Sad

I really enjoyed the previous Total War games, while the earlier ones were a bit more in-depth I still had a lot of fun with the newer titles in the series so I had it pre-ordered fairly early on.

Also patches tend to be pretty frequent (Unfortunately so does various purchase DLC.) so it's more convenient, retail option is also far cheaper than Steam itself (Which is funny since Direct Download would be a cheaper alternative for the publisher.) use a discount code or similar and you get a pretty manageable price even for CE editions of games, though the ever closer 60 Euro standard is getting problematic as more and more titles approach that sort of price level.

EDIT: Unsure how to explain it in better detail, game is fairly easy compared to real hardcore strategy titles but does mix in various elements and blends them in a OK way, battles can also be very visual and epic though normally outside of the high difficulty options they're not all too challenging (Historical mode battles with pre-set conditions tend to change this though.) but on the higher difficulty levels you receive various artificial penalties and the AI similar bonuses which is a bit of a cheap way (But very common.) to achieve a more difficult and AI favored balanced experience.

That it's PC exclusive and takes use of upcoming DX10 (Even 10.1) and DX11 functionality is promising as well but the many patches sometimes needed along with community mods (Normally rather large undertakings to perfect realism or balance but also small tweaks and enhancements such as blood or other effects.) is worrying, mods aren't a problem though but support for them should have been greater seeing how popular they are and how they promote the games further. Smile

It's difficult to describe but I simply find the games very enjoyable and entertaining though I have to admit I'm no master strategist or intelligent tactical player, haha.

Oh and there's no exe file so that 0-day update will be necessary so a early unlock/play of the game is hampered a bit though this works excellent as a pre-load as well and then just copy over the updated files (And accompanying modified nocd, I can't provide such of course but the normal update files should be fine as I normally provide such when possible though CEG based customized protection hinders using the files as is.)

The final version at this point, 0-day patched (500mb) still only has "Shader Model 3 (high)" as maximum. 4 and 5 are grayed out, so we're all stuck with good old DX9 and it's trusty SM 3.0 for now.

The press version did have SM4 and most probably SM5 with dx11 (saw dx11 files in the .pack) but back then they didn't show you options ingame that you couldn't select either way....and I just have a dx10 card with SM4)

Oh, and there's still no AA, it's grayed out. (and that's one thing that wasn't available in the press ver. either)

The game, well, I'm off to bed.

GetGamesGo doesn't seem to care if you buy from "Europe" but in British £.
(24£ which is like 28€, and not 40€ on the same store if you convert the currency, nor 50€ like on steam)

Looking at that, anything over SM3.0 is indeed locked out because the higher ones use the DX11 renderer which they said it'll come later in a patch. It seems similar to Dragon Age 2 then where DX10 cards use the DX11 renderer with limited options, or DX9, but no "dedicated" DX10. Right now, Shogun 2 is stuck with DX9.
"Ultra" settings however are access-able now without any config juggling unlike the demo or preview ver.

Sad, but oh well Razz
