Finally ordered my 90GB Vertex 2E. Can't wait to get my OS (and perhaps a game or two) installed on a fast solid state drive. Weee....

(I didn't get Vertex 3 simply because of limited funds).

Yep, just make sure to do it properly (AHCI enabled, MS's driver instead of Intel's, disable all the pointless crap) Smile

O M G

It's even faster than I expected. And such a tiny drive, and it weighs nothing. I've checked every Win7+SSD-optimisation guide I could find on the net and disabled tons of useless crap. And DAAAAMN is it a joy to simply boot Windows. It's like 10 seconds or something (with No GUI on Boot etc.)

I recently bought a 90gb vertex 2 and it's damn fast. Also had the same first impressions (weights nothing, the silence is also very nice)... I'll certainly switch all drives to SSD in the future (when prices go down and capacity up).

I'm still waiting for the price to come down a little and I'll snag a decent one for my OS drive.

I'm still waiting for cheap 2TB+ SSDs. Laughing For now, I'll be sticking to my trusty 2TB HDD. Plus, I'm not a speed junkie in terms of storage devices. Smile

See, that's where you're making your mistake. You don't get an SSD because you transfer large files to and from it faster Wink

Let's say I'm a one-of-everything person. I like to have a single storage drive for everything (OS and other). Smile As I said I don't need super-fast speeds. I'm quite satisfied with what I've got right now. Smile

Cause partitions FTW?
As well as external drives?

Because that is the anti-safety method, drive failure = OS + DATA + everything gone, BOO Razz

I haven't had just one drive in my system for...have I ever? :S
Still though nubcake_steel (<3), it's not about "storage" speed. You can upgrade to a 12-core system with 24GB of RAM and 3 GTX 580's, and an SSD will STILL give you the best upgrade above all of them. From the moment I press my power button, I can be trolling the hump within 25 seconds, whilst also already having my Winamp, Thunderbird and most likely an IDE running.

(Note: my storage drive is an aging WD Caviar 320GB, with R/W speeds that have dropped over the years; a new 5400 RPM laptop drive will most likely be faster.)

Is it?

Anyway, I always was a 2 drives guy.
All my precious stuff is on both drives, that way only a major system failure will cause me any trouble.

There's one problem with the incredibly fast boot/start time. Messenger (and everything else) starts before my internet has managed to go online (takes ~4 seconds after Windows has shown up) which ends with me having to manually connect Messenger. Not a big deal since it's a luxury problem. Wink

still needs to dial up Confused Laughing

Anyway... i prefer to use 3 drives. 1 for OS off course.. .1 for storage and a 200gb drive just for downloading with Sabnzbd... the automatic extraction goes then again to my storage. I just love the speed i get then.

Fixed Wink

Anyway... do you manage with only 24ogb for OS,apps and games? I think i need at least 300gb if i dont want to uninstall every month just to install some new games.

No, I've got 100mbit fiber, but the CityLAN takes a few seconds to do it's work and connect me with my ISP.
