While putting components into my new CM690 II Advanced case I discovered that the IDE cable I have is too short to connect this old HDD I possess and also my old DVD drive. Since I'm going to replace that DVD drive anyway I wont be buying a longer IDE cable and instead buy a new ODD. Is a Bluray drive worse for DVDs or the same as a DVD drive? Even though I am not gonna be burning or playing a lot of BRs I figure it's a nice feature to have. So far this looks like a decent device with a reasonable price: LG BH10LS30 (http://www.lg.com/us/computer-products/optical-media/LG-internal-dvd-burner-BH10LS30.jsp).
Get a BD-ROM/DVD-RW combo instead. Can be found for less than half the price; burning BD's is a waste of money (last I checked they were still €5+ for a single disc).
Really though thanks for talking me out of potentially wasting 20-30 euros. The only BD combos I can find round here are from Samsung and LG. Which would you recommend? I'm leaning towards LG myself.
I went for that one for my HTPC. This one is very quiet, so for me it was the ideal choice for my HTPC. Rest of the thing consists of two 600 RPM fans (one on the CPU, one as exhaust) and an SSD, so you can see why noise was a big deal to me
Edit: oh hold on, we were talking about a combo drive
Brand doesn't really matter mate, the internals are usually the same anyway.
