I have a question, I want to upgrade my external drive..I had recently ordered the Seagate GoFlex 3TB external drive but people were telling me after the fact that a 3tb drive will NOT work on the ps3(I have the fat ps3) so I went ahead and emailed the place where I ordered it from to cancel the order..just want to be sure that the 2tb one will work..its so confusing since different people keep on telling me different things so I want to be sure before I go ahead and order the 2tb drive..thanks!

From all indications, 2TB *should* work fine - but what you heard is correct; 3TB doesn't work.

Thanks for the info..so is getting this drive Ok then
http://www.jr.com/seagate/pe/SAG_STAC2000100/
someone had told me that the reason why the 3tb doesnt work is because of the USB 3.0 but I noticed the 2tb one also has that capability so I was really confused about it LOL..even my 1tb drive from the same brand(seagate) also has that ability..Ok so I should just go ahead and get the 2tb drive instead then? Thanks for your help!

Nah, it's not because of USB3.0 ... it's because the PS3 just can't handle drives that large for some reason. Same reason why you can only have 1-1.5TB internals, anything over just won't address.

I went ahead and canceled the 3tb drive..its been returned back to sender..already ordered the 2tb drive which will arrive here on Wednesday..since I have a 1tb drive that is almost full, can I just transfer the games from that drive to my new 2tb and they will all work properly? I use MultiMan to play my games, great program by the way -) I appreciate all your help!

Yes, it's quite ok to simply transfer the files from one drive to another. You *may* have to press R1 and let MultiMAN fix the permissions, but it's a simple procedure anyhow.

How would I know if I Have to do that or not..when MultiMan scans the drive for games and finds them all..I always press select +X to play a game, would I get a message saying I Need to fix permissions or something or just when I have MultiMan open I press R1 and all of the games will be fixed just in case..sorry for all the newbie questions

No, you'd either not see any on the list -- or the game would black-screen/lock during loading.

Oh you mean if I connect the new hard drive to the PS3 the MultiMan program won't even show any of the external games? WOW Ok so if I see that I just press r1 and it will fix all of the issues..either that might happen or the game will go to black screen..Ok hopefully I dont have those issues

I definitely need to get a 2TB external for mine. 1.1TB total, combined internal and external, and already I'm down to 12GB >_< I hope someone ports Hermes' Manager to 3.55, because it's got a magnificent feature I want to try; Bigfile Cache.

I have 250GB internal and 2TB external and more games than I thought require to be on internal unfort. I don't have the patience for file splitting and stuff.
Tried to read about big file cache. Did I understand it correctly if it puts many split files from external to a large on internal for 4GB+ files?

From what I can gather, HManager automatically copies split files over to internal and joins them again - adding the bigfile to a "cache" that is used whenever you run the game from external. It sounds absolutely glorious --- but it's 3.41 only. Or rather, the version of HManager that incorporates this is 3.41, since only ver1.3 has been signed for FW3.55

If it's only their word we have on it and not a single shred of proof then i'm gonna go ahead and call them liars.

So i've been out of the scene for a few weeks. Does that new CFW still allow for online PSN play without any apps running on a pc elsewhere etc? So I could download Crysis 2 and play it online straight away?

Just got my 2tb drive..formatted it to fat 32..and put in a few games to see if they worked..they all do thank goodness..but one question..so I had put in Yoostar 2 and played it to verify that it does work which it does, but when I turned back on my external drive to add in some more games I noticed that instead of three game ID folders I saw a forth one..it only had the game ID, and inside that it has a PS3_update folder and aPS3_DISC_SFB file..only 256mb so I deleted the folder..I noticed that on my 1tb drive I see that folder in there..and after doing research found out that its yoostar..I dont know why it created that folder for me, is it Ok that I deleted it from the GAMEZ directory, I Can put it back in as I am putting back in everything that is on my 1tb drive now..thanks

Just out of interest, Sabin. What current setup do you have on your PS3? regards to CFW and the rest of the app's you need.
I've been out the PS3 scene for a while, so i'm still booting from a minimus AVR on dash 3.41...

@snugglebunny
That sounds vaguely familiar, something to do with MultiMAN and how it handles certain titles under certain conditions... but for the life of me I can't recall exactly what it is.
@ITRUK
Right now I'm running 3.55-KMEAW with all the usual 3.55-signed homebrew apps and emulators. I'm also running a fully update (1.16.11 now, if I'm not mistaken) MultiMAN with the BDEmu.bin installed.

You can run anything up to/including games that require 3.50 and 3.55 .... but Crysis 2, retail, requires 3.56 -- and therefore you need to do the EBOOT mod like when you're on 3.41. The leaked copy doing the rounds already has a modified EBOOT though =)
