Final Fantasy III -- now on iPhone and iPod touch!
First released in 1990, Final Fantasy III was the first title in the Final Fantasy series to become a million-seller, establishing once and for all that Square Enix's classic RPG saga was here to stay.
The full 3D remake released in 2006 duplicated the original's success, selling over a million copies worldwide.
Final Fantasy III was a hallmark of innovation for the entire series, from the job system that lets characters change classes at any time to the ability to summon powerful creatures such as Shiva and Bahamut.
When darkness falls and the land is robbed of light, four youths are chosen by the crystals to set forth on a journey to save the world.

I can't believe nobody posted this yet! A while back SE announced Chrono Trigger was coming, now they announce this too -- even better is that it's due in a MONTH!? HELL. YEAH. A lot of speculation about what version of FFIII it is, with the general consensus being it's a port of the updated Nintendo DS version due to the use of the newly-updated Final Fantasy III title style. I hope it is the DS version, though sadly that would mean my humble 2nd Gen iTouch is definitely out of the running .. there's no way my 2G has enough power to run a DS port
Retina Screens:
I guess I was wrong about my iTouch 2G not playing it -- the game fully supports all models of iTouch/iPhone and iPad, with an iOS requirement of 3.0 =)

There's been a lot of buzz about Final Fantasy III lately. Ever since we first announced over the weekend that it might be coming to iOS, and then after Square Enix officially confirmed that it was indeed coming, everybody has been wondering what version of the game it would be. According to Andriasang.com, Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu has the first details of Final Fantasy III for iOS.
Famitsu claims that it will indeed be the 2006 Nintendo DS 3D remake of the original, but enhanced quite a bit for iOS. The graphics are being redone in high resolution and the music and sound effects are getting an overhaul as well. The characters will be controlled via a "touch anywhere" analog stick, and during battle attacks and commands will be carried out simply by tapping on an enemy.

It looks like Square Enix is remaking quite a bit, though. The game's visuals are being redone in high resolution for the iPhone version. The sound is also seeing an update. One of Famitsu's editors who was given an early play chance says that the sound is incredibly high quality.
The iPhone version's control system includes a virtual d-pad which appears wherever you choose to touch the screen. During battle, you can directly select commands then tap the enemy you'd like to attack.
Also being updated for the iPhone version is the monster viewer gallery. This has become easier to use, and the monster cards have been redesigned.
Famitsu lists the same general March release time frame for Final Fantasy III that Square Enix listed in its announcement yesterday. With Famitsu getting a first reveal, we can probably expect official online screenshots to surface later this week.
So there we have it. It's an enhanced port of the remake version of the original game Sadly I guess this excludes me from partaking in the joy, I have serious doubts my humble 2G will be enough for a DS port, let alone an enhanced one.
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"
Released tomorrow (24th March) for a pretty hefty price of $16 USD or $20 NZD --- only 208MB and I'm ECSTATIC to report that it doesn't require a 3GS+ device
~edit~
You wouldn't believe the amount of butthurt on TouchArcade over the price. Holy fucking Christ on a bike! The DS version, which looks considerably inferior, was WELL over twice the price.... yet, because it's on iOS devices, everyone believes it should be $1 instead. Fucking self-entitled shitheads.
I've been buying games for my ios now. got an appstore card and i got all my faves. I would get the rpg games but I get bored on rpg. i might pick this up if it's universal and play it on my ipad.
Sadly no, according to the posts on TouchArcade; it's not universal. Apparently it looks fine on the iPad, but not specifically coded FOR it. Sounds like 2x zoom to me and "RetinaPad" doesn't seem to help -- though I don't know what the heck that is
I'm VERY happy to report that FFIII runs flawlessly on my 2g (Leo ) and it absolutely spanks the ever-loving shit out of the DS version in terms of visuals *and* performance. Controls are lovely too, touch screen is well suited to a turn-based RPG, and they're very responsive when navigating the world map. Similar control scheme to Chaos Rings, in that you can stick your thumb anywhere on the screen and an analogue stick will appear for control .. and you either use touch to interact with objects, or press the hidden "action" button in the lower right of the screen.
Because they don't exist yet I can only presume they're going in order; 1 and 2 have already been released, now 3, so hopefully 4 comes next. To be honest mate, and I know this is a derp-stroke-unpopular stance, but I ADORE the Final Fantasy series. My absolute favourites =) I'm thoroughly impressed with the port of FF3, especially considering my relatively weak 2g.
... though of course being full 3D is going to rape the ever-loving shit out of my battery
*grumbles* VI dicks VII in every orifice But yeah, it's not bad at all. One of the weakest in the series, still pretty fun - and it's most sought after due to the fact it was never, officially, released outside of Japan until the DS remake. I, and millions of others, still think FFIV-V-VI were better, but III was definitely better than the first two, that's for damned sure.
Waaaaa? Sinful, the forum, is exceptionally easy to navigate Forum > Appstore Games > Profit! FF3 *still* wasn't on Installous, but it was on Sinful within minutes.
