Far Cry 1.2 patch enabled Shader Model 3 graphics and it was supposed to improve the image quality according to nvidia: http://www.hardocp.com/article/2004/04/25/shader_model_30 The actual difference in quality? None (although it improved performance), it was a marketing trick using screenshots from a Crytek techdemo instead of the actual game.
Far Cry 64bit patch brought some HD texture, bump maps etc, that do not depend or benefit at all from a 64bit processor: http://www.anandtech.com/show/1677 but they were released only for the 64bit version to honor the agreement between Crytek and AMD.
And now Crysis 2 ships with dx9 only and includes effects such as per object motion blur and bokeh DoF filter that are CUDA or DX11 exclusive effects in other titles.
And the "entusiast" PC gamers say its graphics are those of a console port when it looks better than other "enthusiast" games with bullshit DX11 effects
Anyway for what is worth tomorrow it's semi-confirmed the DX11 patch + advanced graphics options will be released.

@consolitis One major DX11 advantage, if implemented well, DX11 should introduce a rather substantial performance improvement, allowing for enabling even more features.
Is there any place where i can see a complete list of commands used to customize Cyrsis2? Things like "g_skipintro=1" " r_DrawNearFoV=75" " r_motionblur=2"

We don't need it right now, because these "even more features" are nowhere to be found for the moment and they have already optimized the fuck out of their dx9 mode and it certainly shows to the point I question whether DX10+ would bring performance improvements... or not. DX10+ alone, with no new content, would only help to enable proper MSAA without hacks.
Of course I am not anti-DX11, but I am very much anti-bullshit-DX11 and most people ask "where is DX11???" without even knowing what they want out of it.

Well it was the same with DX10.
People to "amazing DX10 games" such as BioShock, Gears of War, Company of Heroes and indeed Crysis, when all they used was a very tiny subset. I don't believe there is one game that makes proper use of geometry shader to date.
I'm at the last segment of the final mission. I meet those cloaking Cephs, but I can't seem to defeat them by any weapon. Tried C4, Grenades, melee - nada. Nothing seems to work for these fuckers. I caught up on a YouTube walkthrough video and it showed that we have to grab hold of these Cephs and throw them off. But I can't seem to get the option to grab them at all. WTF? Thoughts?

Spoiler:
Put maximum armor on, shoot em so they get stunned then melee spam the hell out of them (if you can in the back). Eventually they will die, saved me a lot of time instead of trying that grab mechanic

Thanks for the prompt help dude. I'll try it right now. Any mods that need to be equipped?
How can I get the benchmark to work?
Keep getting this error
Code:
OpenAutomate Failed loading: 'OpenAutomatePlugin.dll'
ERROR: Couldn't load the plugin.
ERROR: OA not initialized.
this oaMan tool doens't work either I cant even add it to the application list
The path where you installed Crysis 2 must not have any special char and no spaces!
c:\games\crysis2\
for example would work.
I installed it to
d:\games\crysis 2\
and it does not work, renaming the directory to crysis2 doesn't work either. I think you need to modify the registry entries and so on too after that.... so I just said to myself, fuck that damn benchmark.
As for the lack of graphics options...were PC gamers. Were not that fucking retarded. Just tweak your shit with a few command lines its not that difficult.
You heard it here crytek, we don't need in game menus for anything so in crysis 3 you might as well as get rid of ALL those.

The game didn't turn out to be so bad in the end.
Better than COD and Homefronts efforts to do anything different.
The more I think of this the more it makes sense to me: at it's core crysis 2 isn't really that great, it's just that the FPS market is saturated with so much shit that crysis 2 ends up winning by default for presenting something different.
Still, like I've said in earlier posts, I'm really having lots of fun playing this.

YEE-HAW! That did the trick. Thanks a ton buddy. Completed the game minutes back. It just showed the ending cut-scene and switched straight back the the main menu, weird.

I am surprised to read you say that! Even if you found it to be "merely passable" then most people will likely find it pretty good

lol! consolitis what ur guess is gonna be the best fps shooter this year? pc, consoles and shit.
As a total package, best FPS of this year will likely be BF3. Best non-shooting FPS? Portal 2.

What about best SP FPS?
Depends. DE:HR will probably be great/better than most titles but it's not a traditional fps.
So between the next CoD, DNF, Rage, Brink, and Crysis 2.. it's either DNF or Crysis 2.
