I get graphical glitches, like the screen turns into this fuzzy view and colors pop up around the edges and then my PC freezes.
I first had this problem in DA II, but now when I turn on the PC as soon as the desktop shows up it all fucks up and freezes.
GPU overheating issue?
btw PC works fine in safe mode.

If you have an onboard GPU you might try switching to that in the BIOS and then see what happens.
Ideally you should try another GPU in your system or your GPU in a friend(or victim)'s computer, the last one should be easier.

FireMaster get the card out and clean it. You can also remove the drivers from safe mode and then restart and install newer or older ones. Because they control the fan speed, just to be sure.
DV2 if you see an option in your BIOS , then disable it.

Try it first but be careful when cleaning the card.
A can of compressed air used from short distance will do the trick, and remember to hold down the fan while you're cleaning it.

working with default W7 driver on Windows classic theme, as soon as aero is activated, screen fuck up and freeze. yep it's definitely a GPU issue. and a HARDware one at that. it seems like my trusty 8800GT has come to an end.

Fucked it all up. took the GPU out and took it apart, cleaned it up real good (lotta fucking dust) when I put it back in it doesn't send any signal to the screen at all.

yeah i'm looking at the gts250 right now.
well I'm not rich an GTS250 seems to be the equivalent of a 9800GTX so it's all good in my book.
my 8800GT (god rest her soul) ran most games pretty decently at 1920 x 1080 so I'm all good for now for a "slight" change only.
besides, we're still playing games that use 2005 tech and that won't change for a few more years so it'd be pointless to be a perfectionist elitist PC enthusiast.

around $100, I doubt I can find a 460GTX for that price, call me cheap but I'm really going through a crisis these days. that and the fact that I don't shop online.

I beg to differ, I think you can. They are actually rather cheap

Looking for new or used cards? My last two cards were from ebay (8800GTS = 28€, 4850 = 39€)

thing is I don't buy used components from strangers online, you never know. and like I said I try to avoid shopping online as much as possible so the GTS250 is pretty much my best bet.

or the GTS450 1GB since it has DX11 and all that, it's 128bit but has GDDR5 memory.

I got a 28" monitor yeah, but the 8800GT ran most games at that resolution pretty decently, however I don't mind scaling down to 1680x1050 from time to time.

Bought a GTS450, it's a pretty underrated card for what it's really capable of. I still think there might be a PSU related issue tho.
