Looks awesome but I wonder how it will actually play out. Like when you are hunting for evidence, will it just end up being "run around in a circle smashing the 'pick up' button" to snag all the evidence. If you miss something, will someone go "oh gee, you better go look over that crime scene again *wink wink*"
Also, they should make saving inconvenient. It would be way too easy to click "SAVE" and then interrogate someone. Wrong question? Re-load! Witness won't talk because you pissed him off? Re-load! But if you have to save at your home and then drive all across town to the police station, you may not want to bother reloading if an interrogation didn't go 100% perfect.

Saw a live demo this weekend at PAX East, game looked AMAZING in action.
Game is very graphic also, first scene he showed us was a woman being bludgeoned to death off screen with blood flying everywhere, then BAM, when you arrive on scene her naked graphic corpse is just there in your face all bloody and fucked up. ;p
@poisonousj
unfortunately, given the tight pacing and scope of the live demo, I don't think I have any answers for you on these. It didn't sound like you get too many clues as to what evidence to look for (via verbal queues from NPCs), but you can't really mash your buttons either...
When you find evidence, you have to manipulate it somehow to notice something interesting about it. And it's not usually button mashing, you have to spin the camera just right to find the clue.
My favorite part was when the dude playing took a punch to the face interrogating some guy, and the player's hat went flying off, haha.
The facial stuff was incredible (as you've seen already), but it was sweet to see it being played in real time.
I wasn't super into this game before, but now I am!

Awesome , thanks for sharing your experience with the game. I love film noir and the 40 - 50s in general, so im incredibly excited about this game.

Yea, thanks for the info! i'm pretty confident this game will turn out great. Rockstar doesn't put out crap.

The only problem with Rockstar games is that they are relatively easy. It would be really great if solving crimes would be really, really hard. Looking at the clues, thinking for hours and maybe, somehow, somewhere find that address where you should be to interrogate someone and solve the crime or find more clues. Difficult like Braid or Monkey Island.
But if it's a walk in the park, like GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption, it's a missed chance.

How can u compare a game like GTA with L.A. Noire, it may have the same ellements but the whole things is titaly different.
Where u could in GTA just do whatever u want like shooting everyone that u see, in L.A. noire u have to solve crimes and interact more with people, naah in my opinion thats a huge difference.

Cause it would've been so much different if R* didn't interfere with the development.
Now the game will be easier. Poorly optimized. Loaded with features no one really needs. And hopefully the story will be decent. I remember in the days of awesome this game read as an action game where your gun is your pen. No need for guns/no shoot outs... just an open world detective story. Sounded awesome. Sounded amazing. And now we got R* on board taking all the credit for the new 'awesome' features.

fuck off with the store exclusive missions
weapons / skins are one thing but actual missions with dedicated dialogue and characters is shite though

I just watched L.A. Confidential for the first time and I am stoked for this game now. Hope it has a great story instead of the typical Rockstar stuff

i sure hope so man. also hope the controls aren't as... hmm whats the word - maybe robotic? - as they were in gta iv which i started replaying last week. sometimes it seems like there's a 1 second or more delay in what you tell it to do and it happening on screen.

Good job reading the article.
"the game has a total of five hours and 12 minutes of cinematics"

Well with games like Metal Gear Solid you never know. 5 hours cut scene, 15 minutes of sneaking, rinze repeat.

i bet you can't skip the cutscenes and can't save after them
and then there's a ridiculously hard bit just after

I don't remember a R* game with unskippable cutscenes.
