The console version sold 600000 bazillion copies and the PC version was only pirated!

DEY ONLY PIRATEZ ON PC < You can see this frequently if you go onto any mainstream gaming site/forum, seriously.

According to their twitter the split is 55% units sold on Steam, 45% on XBLA.

And someone asked them that maybe despite having sold more copies on Steam, the majority of the copies were sold on very low price on a sale, which would mean the actual revenue is lower compared to the revenue from the XBLA sales and they replied that no, the Steam revenue is higher regardless.

Quote:
Wrapping up the session in a hurry, McMillen said the game ended up performing better on Steam than it did on Xbox Live Arcade. Refenes echoed the sentiment, saying, "Everybody should love over Steam. Like all nasty love over Steam."

Also according to the above now they have Nintendo 3DS devkits.

Super.Meat.Boy.incl.Update.12.RIP-Unleashed

Related to this update of the game:
http://supermeatboy.com/84/Super_Meat_World_/#b

New levels work with Unleased version. You just need to have active internet connection, since levels are stored online.

P.S.
Still, beware of the bugs. This update broke World 6 levels (game crashes, if you try to play it). Developers are aware of this, and will fix that in next update.

Super Meat Boy sells 600000 copies, 2/3 of them are on PC, thanks to the Steam sales. Smile

The reason why xbla has different characters is because thats what MS wanted for their version or we couldnt get a deal with them. its contract stuff that we can budge on. Alien hominid wasnt in the contract but the rest were so we added him.

If you like this kind of games (hard platformers), absolutely, the game has really no flaws.

I like platformers, but not a fan of puzzle platformers, like Braid. I'm more a classic platformer kinda guy (Mario, Aladdin, Sonic). The talk of bandages makes me think it's more Braid than Mario?

http://www.gamertagradio.com/new/2011/09/zen-studios-no-near-death-experiences-a-good-microsoft-experience/
https://twitter.com/supermeatboy
https://twitter.com/zen_studios

tl;dr Microsoft told Zen Studios "those Team Meat guys are saying MS and XBLA are horrible you have to get out there and say they are wrong and you love us!"

So out of the blue Zen Studios starts sending emails with the following press release attacking Team Meat.

Quote:
So this is a bit of a rant on the other side of the Team Meat negativity, a bit from emotion, a bit from truth:

There has been quite a bit of Microsoft backlash recently, highlighted by continous Team Meat bantering about near death experiences during Super Meat Boy dev cycles. While these highly dramatic rants make for controversial headlines and ultimately get good readership, we at Zen can offer a completely different side of the equation.

We had (and continue to have) an excellent experience working with Microsoft. Pinball FX2 came out during the same Game Feast promotion, and we had similiar support and promotion available to us as did everyone in our launch class (Comic Jumper, Super Meat Boy, Pinball FX2, Hydrophobia). If fact, if you want to argue, Super Meat Boy got the MOST promo out of thd deal as they were the poster child for the whole campaign (link).

And sorry, not to brag but Pinball FX2 continues to be a top XBLA game week over week – even in the midst of Summer of Arcade (link). Believe me, we did not figure all of this out ourselves, Microsoft and their brain trust had a LOT to do with it.

So why all the backlash? What are they not telling you? Is this a desperate attempt at marketing, PR…SALES? How come no one has mentioned that these guys have made millions – is it to protect their “we are indie and poor” image?

Fuck Microsoft and fuck Zen Studios for being their bitches, out of the fucking blue attacking a (fellow) indie developer implying that Team Meat are lying when they say they weren't treated well by MS, and that it's all a trick to get "PR SALES".

What gives them the right to send such a press release?

And this attacking Sony:

Quote:
Also, PlayStation sure got off pretty easy with the whole PSN outage, there was not much follow up on the effect on digital publishers who had all their content released with no notification the Thursday night before E3. It's funny that PlayStation is now trying to convince everyone that Microsoft is keeping things back by disguising inferior technology...just sayin.

I would LOVE to share another side of the story. While it will not be controversial, it will be honest and true. If there is any interest, we are ready and willing to talk!

It's funny that Zen has attacked Team Meat for all the wrong reasons and has probably only read that one article. If they had listened to the podcasts Team Meat have featured in, they have alot of praise for people at MS. They just didn't want new devs going to the 360 platform and having similar experiences. Nothing bad in that at all. This is just Zen trying to get some PR time, but making themselves look utter douches at the same time.

It goes to show how they suck at fine tuning the controls for a PC. It might seem funny to some but it feels like a dick move. They should actually add a warning on the steam page "Buy a controller or be prepared for 99% cheap deaths".

Thankfully the binding of isaac plays really well with a keyboard.

New Info about the next Meat boy game and chances it will come to PC/consoles as well
Quote:
Super Meat Boy has been a hit on the PC, PSN and Xbox 360 ever since its release. The game, which is developed by Team Meat, is now headed to mobile platforms like the iPhone and Android.

More than just a port, Super Meat Boy: The Game is being developed from the ground up with new graphics and gameplay, with controls tailored for a touch screen experience. The game is described as a "re-envisioning" rather than a sequel or a port.

To cater to a variety of mobile platforms, the game will offer vector graphics, so they visuals are easy to scale. Expect to see Retina Display support right off the bat.

With the exception of saws, the game will see the addition of some all new traps. Other additions include new music by Danny Baranowsky, new bosses, unlockable characters, and "all the things they weren't able to do" with the original game due to time and monetary constraints.

Super Meat Boy: The Game will not be exclusive to mobile devices, so there's a good chance it'll land on the PC, PSN and XBLA. We look forward to it.

(the game never got out for PSN though)

http://www.shacknews.com/article/76310/super-meat-boy-dev-announces-mew-genics

Quote:

Expect more cutesy and horrifying things from the folks behind Super Meat Boy, as developer Team Meat announced its next game over the weekend, Mew-Genics. The pair started the mysterious new "game about cats... kinda" during a weekend game jam, then were so taken with it they put Super Meat Boy: The Game, the follow-up for mobile and PC, on hold to play with cats.

"Mew-Genics is by far the strangest project I've ever worked on.. and that's saying something," Edmund McMillen said in Saturday's announcement. "Tommy and I are very happy with how development has been going on it and decided that Mew-Genics will be the next official Team Meat game. We don't want to spoil too much here, but we can say the game will be randomly generated, strange and involve cats."

What the game actually is, along with its release platforms and all that jazz, is a mystery for now. McMillen did note that "We are moving quite fast on it," so expect details "soon."

An official site is up, but only has a picture for now.

Could be interesting, sounds a bit odd but might be quite fun.

http://www.shacknews.com/article/77962/team-meats-mew-genics-mixes-the-sims-pokemon-animal-crossing

Seems their upcoming game is a ehh "cat lady simulator".

Quote:

(so far it can produce 25,418,658,283,290,000,000,000,000 unique felines).

"I think most would describe Mew-Genics as a cross between The Sims and Pokemon with a sprinkling of Animal Crossing and a dash of Tamagotchi, but at its core the game really isn't like anything we've seen before," McMillen explained in a blog post.

McMillen illustrates how the game works with a little story of when he tried to get Puddle, a cat with an admirable forked tail, to breed. There follows a twisted tail of breeding partners associating food with beatings and therefore starving to death, inherited narcolepsy, contracted FIV, abusive cat-dads, and cryogenic freezing.

The story ends, "I wasn't able to save Dot because I was arrested by the local animal control shortly after I put Puddle in the cube, probably because of letting Goon run away ... and the whole giving my other cat aids thing ... or maybe it was the dead cat in the attic." Do read the whole story, won't you? It is awfully pleasant.

"I think the gameplay story above sums up what our goal is, we want to create a living world where cats act like cats and the player as well as the cat's actions actually matter," McMillen said.

Mew-Genics is slated for release on PC (via Steam), iOS, Android, and "possibly more" later this year. Here's the wacky title theme:
