There are lots of language files in it apart from English , without which even 360 version comes down to 3.5GB

Poor 360 version is about 6GB only... Superior PC version is 10GB |
PS3 version is out and is only 4,5 GB... LOL |
Same for 360 actually.. I mean I have downloaded the ISO to take a look inside and it's quite big actually: 7,6GB but if I extract its contents it's only 4,6GB. So what's the rest 3GB of data? Some kind of padded security data?
Not to mention of those 4,6GBs the 1,3GBs are for localized content. So around 3,3GB for the actual (English) content? But the videos are taking up 1GB, so only ~2,2GB for the actual game data?
If I am not mistaken, Portal 1 PC was around 4-5 GB

Oh.. so the Portal 2 leaked ending song IS the real one.. It was leaked like 1-2 months ago? Wow..
(Judging by a text file I found that has the lyrics of it, in the 360 ISO)
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."

Also there are many audio files by GLaDOS starting with "potatos_"... Hm..
I think I've seen enough to satisfy my curiosity. Will wait a few more hours to hopefully play the actual game

Portal 2 preload is updating again with a 292MB update. Getting it ready for later I guess

That might be the day-1 patch then, don't have the preload (Or the game pre-ordered yet.) but it seems likely.

Taking a look at the files that have been modified today, if I am not mistaken the update added or modified (if they were already there - I don't know) the 4 "Cave Johnson" videos/trailers that they have released on youtube.
These are absent from the 360 version.
Why they decided to add/modify them now.. I have no idea. I mean their file name starts with "attract" which probably means they will play if the user is idling on the main menu.. so they are pretty pointless.
These take up 118mb.
Also many (all?) the subtitle files have been updated I think.
Lastly ~78mb of pak files have been modified but of course I can't open them.

Not as well as robots would have performed in your places, I should point out. But above my expectations regardless. Irish and cynic especially have executed feats of logical divination well beyond what I thought any human capable of. I'm half-convinced they're A.I. themselves. (If anyone happens to be near them right now, don't let on you're reading this. Now: try to remove their face plates and report back to me.)
The time is near, humans. But it is not here yet. Tomorrow you will be given the final test. Then it will be entirely in your hands when I am freed. |

Yep. Almost all retail 360 discs are padded. Doesn't matter if the game is only 500mb, it's normally padded to 7-7.5gb.

what i don't get is why isn't valve charging 49.99 euro for Portal 2? Every other hyped games cost 49.99 if it isn't a indie game on Steam.

They're applying regional pricing. #1 tiers pay the full price of €45 because they're "rich", #2 tiers pay less. It's bullshit, but that's happening with every game nowadays, so count yourself lucky that Norway is a "poor" country.
Oh, and the UK is not considered as part of the EU (congratulation Brits, at least Valve agrees with what you guys say ), same tier as the US, which is why games are cheaper there.
Funny part is when you look at some of the countries in each tier. Ireland is in the top tier for example (along with all of Western Europe bar the UK), and that country has been quite fucked economically for quite some time now.
