Looks like Kelly Bailey (lead sound designer and composer) left Valve late last year, that doesn't sound good at all..

Nobody is irreplaceable.
Besides the new guy is multitalented, he has worked as digital artist/technical director for movies like The Matrix sequels and LotR and he's already done tracks for Portal 1, TF2, L4D1, L4D2 and now Portal 2.

@garus
yeah but this time it actually says at the top of the page that we can help release portal 2 early if we buy the potato pack (and find all the hidden potatoes)
EDIT: nm didn't see your last line in the comment

well I think its quite nasty for valve to "hey wanna play our game earlier? then know what, pay for another game/pack in addition to the money you spend on portal-2, and then you still might not be able to play the game earlier because there weren't enough people buying it" (although as long as they don't release it later then the official release date they have every right to do it).
EDIT: BTW I bought portal 2 because based on my experience with the first game I trust the 2nd to be a blast, so my comment is not based on any negative feeling towards the game or their products in general, just this business practice mentioned above

They aren't forcing anybody to buy those games. There are lot's of people that already have those game and if they want portal 2 to launch earlier they could just run the games...

The game is originally supposed to be released in 94 hours. The point of the countdown is that it will decrease faster the more players are playing any of the games in the potato pack.

I don't think you have to collect potatoes. I think you only have to boot up the games.
If anyone has any of these games, launch them and leave them in the background open.

I don't know about that the idea behind the potato pack is that each one of this games has been slightly changed to include a hidden potato and only if you find them only then the time decreases, (at least that is my impression, I wasn't following the porta l2 related ARG closely).
So I think that even if someone has those games already I'm not sure it helps to just run them. They need to find the "secret potatoes" which unless Valve patched them in aren't in the original releases.

Everyone received the ARG updates, everyone's games has the potatoes.
But I don't think that people have to find them anymore, the whole GLaDOS@Home thing suggests to me you just have to run this games.

Quote: | Well, the end is definitely near. Thanks to the efforts of a dedicated group of ingenious test subjects, we've located enough potatoes to generate the required power to start the GLaDOS reboot process. It's not too late to participate, though. The more CPU power dedicated to the process, the faster it will finish. What does that mean? From now until release, play any or all of the Potato Sack games to expedite the launch of Portal 2. Your efforts will be tracked on the official GLaDOS@home page. |

Well I put over 500 hours into Audiosurf over the last couple years, I've done my part, would leaving the game running in the background help? I'd do that with Audiosurf

not quite, below is the potato meter, so it doesnt really matter if you already had the game, you have to have potatos
target being a little over 121k of them, so if someone has about 20 or so, it would make a difference if 10 of these would play those games.
So yes, you still have to have or buy the patato crap to 'help'

I haven't followed much this marketing stuff but I find it quite hilarious ; a countdown inside another countdown that unlocks the game earlier if you fire up all the 13 potato titles at the same time; portalception?

It's horseshit at this point, they're stuffing this shit down our throats, or at least are trying.
I really do hope this fails miserably, i'd rather wait and feel content that these kind of shennanigans didnt work for them than have it succeed.
