Even though the CPU count has gone up and the number of potatoes has gone up, the countdown hasn't changed at all. It's still pointing toward midnight tuesday (US EST of course).
I wonder how long before they go "Uhh, guys. This isn't going as fast as we like. Someone artificially bump that timer up."

I'm guessing the CPU's are in relation, so the more CPU's should mean more potatoes, but in this case i assume that most people are playing these games before the Potato Pack existed.
So, if people who have potatoes would play these titles ONLY THEN it would make a difference, good luck with that.

It can't be unique players, that would be impossible for every one of those games, its not current users, its clearly playtime or something, playtime would be possible but since the only bar that has really moved is "The Wonderful End of the World" its best to just wait till Tuesday because there is no way without a little help from Valve (editing the amount needed) that the game will be released early
Portal 2 is the first PC game I bought new, on release (in this case even pre-order), for full price since... Half Life 2 I think. Seeing the price differences between US and EU makes me remember why I felt exploited and started to pirate

It can take thousands? millions? billions? of years.
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"
Maybe a stupid question, anyway: Is possible to crack that pre-game? includes it any EXE? I don't use Steam, so I have no idea.
No. Yes.
How come? It's encrypted files, no? Couldn't you just de-encrypt them?
I also have no idea about this, just asking...
AES. Yes. No.
EDIT: I should be clearer since this game is very popular and this question will surely be asked multiple times. The preload contains the full exe, but the exe is AES-256 encrypted. There is no way in hell you can break the encryption.

Well, if the password is not too big, it does not take years to decrypt.
Type 2^256 into a calculator and see how many different combinations it produces. Or write a "1" on a sheet of paper and then write 77 zeros behind it, then try to spell the number.
Still can't get over the fact the Bailey didnt compose this, loved his ambient work in the Half-Life series, just superb stuff and really helped the game define its world and atmosphere.
Half-Life (Ep) 3 just won't be the same without his input.

How do you know he hasn't produced tracks for it?

I guess Valve might release it Monday for the illusion of it being released early or the counters will accelerate, still it's only been a few hours but that's quite a lot of "computations" they require over a large pack of games, who knows though maybe the required number will actually be reached over the weekend but I'm skeptic to it.

Why? AFAIK, I can encrypt a file with one single character as password. I can in TrueCrypt. That's what I mean with "not too big" password.
The password is a sequence of 256 bit, no shorter or longer password is supported by a 256-bit-AES algorithm. 256 bit result in ~10^77 different combinations. If you let your computer try all possible combinations one after one chances are that mankind will be extinct in a natural way before it finishes.

There should be something like seti@home for breaking steam encyrption keys for upcoming games
Because I don't have any of these games, I wonder if using a cracked version of them with a Steam "emulator"/"patcher" would help contribute?
