Passable, as it doesn't fit into the nowadays' "button-awesome" trend. Also there are no explosions or, to that matter, bombs. |
Oh, just you wait.

Same problem. Just tested it. The game starts but it seems to ignore the steamclient.dll in the Portal/bin completly.
I guess SKIDROWs crack method bypasses that dll completely and uses the one from the main directory.

How? Just connect to IP in console? |
How....I can't even access coop multiplayer.
Hope your not referring to the old stupid method of running a Steam dummy account. Already created 3 of them for the last few games.
Hope a PROPER fix and maybe a Multi crack will show up. L4D2 was eventually cracked on multi so why not Portal.

Great, did not expect it to work but it works flawlessly with the Skidrow version!
No crashes to desktop, played for more than an hour.
Win 7 x64, 2GB RAM, Radeon 4850 (512MB). Everything on high, except MSAA just on 2x. Running VERY fluent with VSYNC on
What I did to ensure that my legit steam account does not get banned:
+ Checked if steam is running
+ Checked if the steam service is running (run->services.msc) and set it to deactivated so that it does not start up even when called.
+ Renamed steam directory so if even some dll or exe manages to run, it is not capable to find the original steam directory
+ Blocked access to net of portal2.exe (windows firewall -> wf.msc, outgoing, create new rule)
Maybe all this crap is irrelevant. Whatever!
BTW the leves were optimized to hell so that this game can run any good. This is not like crysis two where almost every polygon has multiple layer of shaders and textures. Just some of the stuff that catches your eye has higher resolution textures and multiple shaders.
Oh and the game is very good too!

Well, the first time it crashed, that firewall message by Windows popped up, so I guess it has something to do with Portal wanting to connect with the internet. Of course I didn't permit it.

i dont think these crashes are crack issues - happened to me on steam version too - worksfine by running portal2.exe as admin

I've had zero crashes but there are reports of people having issues over at steampowered.

Crashes even in admin mode with steamclient.dll copied to correct folder.
Win7 X64 Ultimate
GTX 560 TI
Gonna wait for some sort of fix.
Could this have something to do with the choice of firewall? I'm using Win7 firewall & MS Security Essentials as AV
Ps. I have blocked Portal2.exe in Firewall

try and go into the skidrow folder, copy all at once, and paste in the installation folder... That's what I did.. I tried doing it with the files first and then the bin folder; crashed, the other way, it all worked fine...?

I allowed the exe but disconnected from the internet (unplugged) no crashes after that.
Can anyone else confirm? (probably a fluke)

I find this on another forum, seems to work!
"There are 2 -bin- folders inside Portal 2. Put the .dll files in the right one.
\Portal 2\bin - Wrong ONE - Game will crash
\Portal 2\portal2\bin - RIGHT ONE - Game works PERFECT"
