That's not the case here. The effort that has gone into the game shows everywhere, and regardless of whether it's a game for you or not, it is just well-made, period.
Here is the crucial point to understanding what I posted: I did not judge Portal 2 as I did not play it, like I said before. I cannot say anything about the quality of the game. If you say it is good or even better, then I take that as your opinion, nothing more, nothing less. I entered this topic posting a link to metacritic where everybody can see the gap between the journalists' and the users' rating, like people have done for other games with such noticable differences. I will not say anything about the game itself for the reason I stated. How this opens up another "you are that anti-fanboy, shoo" I do not know but that's ok... it's the hump.
Yeah well, I stopped caring about reviews in general quite some time ago. ME2 got rave reviews, and I think it's a piece of shit and absolutely not worth my money, as I don't feel it would give me enough game to PLAY. If you look at Metacritic though, it gets so many positives, with the negatives being of people who got their saves corrupted, hardly anyone gives an objective opinion. Holds absolutely no value

Because we disagree about the user rating, so we took a look at those "reviews" and many of them were criticizing the ARG, or the in-game cash shop or they were the result of a troll campaign.
For DA2 we did not disagree about the low rating so we didn't bother to investigate if the reviews were serious or troll-reviews.

I agree with you. I do find it surprising, however, when a game with so much hype gives such a different picture from two sides, the professionals and the users. It makes you wonder who built the hype more: The users or the journos?
@consolitis:
For the DA2 reviews, the first thing I read here and elsewhere went in the same direction: Blame /b/. In the long run, those 1/10 reviews were still unfair but overall the useres were right.

There's a lot of that explained in the commentary mode Radicalus, they had to make a lot of stuff simpler and immediately recognizable and such to avoid confusing and making the playtesters they had going into all sorts of issues and problems.
Hmm, seems like a good time to load up the commentary. I really liked the game, but I'm a puzzle maniac, and a programmer, so that makes it easy to figure out, but my GF is loving the game, she got stuck for a few minutes every now and then - she's new to gaming.

Usually the journos. If you look at DA2 here on the hump - and let me assure you, it didn't just happen here - all the fans of DA:O were incredibly disappointed by just its complete 180 in gameplay alone. Same thing with FO3 - massive hypes which ultimately just disappointed if compared to FO1 and 2. Don't get me wrong, I approached FO3 the wrong way: I took it as a part of the franchise, in line with the original games. It is a fine game, but the hype for it was all wrong as it should simply not have had the Fallout name; it was hyped to be the long-awaited sequel to FO2. That was my mistake as well, I took it as a sequel and ended up hating it with everything I had in me. With NV I approached it as if it were a new game, and enjoyed it much more.
In all of these cases you have a massive hype built up by previews and whatnot for the "sequels", and while both are fine games on their own (granted, DA2 does have some more issues than just not being a proper sequel DA:O, but still), they should never, EVER be compared with their "predecessors". The originals also had massive hypes built up the same way, but they lived up to them for the most part.
It's different in this case. The original Portal came out of the blue. Not much of a hype or anything going on. Because of that, it instantly got a raging mad fan base among both journos and other people and that's where the hype came from. In contrast do DA:O and DA2 for example, Portal 2 does not change the basic mechanics of the game or play/look worse than the original; in fact, it plays and looks better. So in this case, the reviews do not make sense, the game cannot be rated lower than its predecessor, because it does everything that did; and then some
Fair enough. I guess this also means that people who did not enjoy the heck out of the first game won't like the sequel either. At least everybody (or mostly, if you do take into account those negative reviews) knows what she's getting.
Good game, finished it in almost one sit, about 6 hours and chapter 7 or 8 took me a while, haven't tried co-op yet (any takers btw?) ..
I was more than sure that they'd cut most of the stuff from last year's E3, i've learned my lesson with Valve since the 2003 fiasco.
Though the game would look better though, frequent load times even if short are annoying and some textures are extremly low res.

The E3 levels were demos made to look interesting instead of showing real levels. That applies to both HL2 and Portal 2.
For HL2 we know so because the whole game was leaked and the E3 demos were on a completely different folder etc and for Portal 2 we know so because there are some obselete files in C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\portal 2\portal2\reslists like e3_trust_fling which imply they were created specifically to be shown there.
So.. I'm um.. trying to play the game on my laptop.. it has a 8400 GS.. so bellow the minimum requirements I believe.
At 640x480, everything set to low, the framerate goes from as low as 15fps to as high as 80fps. Most of the time it's okay-ish 25-40 but the graphics aren't pretty...
Nevertheless I made it to chapter 5 and so far I absolutely love it!

It will most likely need reenabling, just like L4D, as the console versions support splitscreen MP - but the PC, as standard, doesn't.
I remember setting the nvidia drivers to dual monitors horizontal span under XP instead of dualview (thing which got unfortunately disabled in Vista/7), and vertical splitscreen in L4D and play full resolution on two different monitors, each having the complete monitor for his viewport. Worked like a charm. Problem is, I had to reboot under WinXP every time I wanted to play. If I could reproduce this for the portal2 coop it would be awesome, but there's the game settings problem, and the drivers problem.
edit : Oh well, consolitis link explain it all, and on page7 someone posted an application to mimic XP dual monitor modes. Nice. Seems to need a lot of configuration though.

so...it's like the first one?
portals and puzzles all the way or there is more stuff like shoot enemies?
damn valve...what so hard to make half life 3 or episode 3...i don't feel like puzzles:/
that's your problem, if you don't like the game, just do something else, the game is excellent, absolutely a piece of artwork speaking about creativity and fun. But of course, once you have completed the singleplayer mode, there is nothing left except replay it. That's why Valve would be genious to design a new Half-Life. But don't know if they are.
